  1. Happy Birthday Ray!
  2. This picture is from a recent Christian Dior exhibit at the IMA. This is YSL for the House of Dior, ca ~1956; hand sewn with metallic thread, crystals, and rhinestones. The picture in no way does the dress justice; I had to shoot it w/o flash. The dress was like a piece of sculpture. Breathtaking.
  3. No snobbery here; Long's is a mom and pop that's been around for 50 years, located in a working class neighborhood. The sign about patron behavior was put there out of necessity. Their donuts are almost riot inducing.
  4. Here in Indiana the best donuts hands down are from Long's Bakery on 16th street in Speedway. No preservatives and gone in less than an hour. They even have a sign that reads something like 'if you push and shove in line and are rude and abusive to our staff we will throw you out'
  5. Look closely at the scarf Rachael Ray is wearing; there's a distinct paisley pattern. My point being that it looks nothing like Arafat's except for being black and white with fringe.
  6. Figures her name is attached to this. It's a freakin' paisley scarf.
  7. Happy Birthday Jim! Hope you get the chance to relax and enjoy your birthday after all of the travel this week-end. Thanks to you for everything you do for the board. Thank you to you and Alison (and Zora and Stella) for sharing your life with us. We all love you guys...
  8. Never happened. Just a topic starter. If it had happened, Ann would have killed me. That's the first thing I thought of ... that you confused the two and Ann kicked your ass.
  9. This explains my experiences precisely; I had never been able to describe it before. Like everyone has mentioned, it usually has to do with my mood and stress level, usually occuring at certain holidays and anniversaries (of my father's death, but not so much on the anniversary of his birth--that always seems filled with happy thoughts and memories) and of late in dealing with my sister-in-law's advanced ovarian cancer. It's mostly recorded music that I find offensive. Part of it may be that I get bored with the music I have but don't have the emotional energy to discover new music. On the other hand, Joe's playing always lifts my spirits as does anything he plays for me from his CD collection. It always gets better with time, almost with a renewed intensity. I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Larry. Having never lost a spouse the only thing I can relate it to is when my father passed, quite young, and watching my mother go through the grief process with losing a husband and eventually working through it. The pain is still there but is tempered with memories that become more beautiful with time. You're in my thoughts.
  10. Happy Birthday Chuck! This wouldn't be "The Place" without you. And you'll always be the 'hot older guy' of the board.
  11. Truer words were never spoken.
  12. Word certainly do fail...and it was way too soon. He was such a cool guy! I'm still in shock and disbelief since Joe gave me the news earlier. I only had the opportunity to chat with him on a few occasions, and I can tell from those brief moments what a wonderful person he was. He had such great spirit and love for life. The stories you've told about the sacrifices he made illustrate his character and love for his family. Echoing what Joe said, it was evident that he had found happiness and fulfillment again after the passing of your mother, and it was wonderful to see that. He and Venetia were so great together; my heart breaks for her. My heart breaks for you and your entire family. Now is the time to lean on each other. We all love you guys and share in your loss.
  13. that I love cake? that I love Duff? that food can be artistic?
  14. I love Duff! He *does* seem to love the bizarre, but his traditional cakes are fantastic. He's CIA trained, and he apprenticed at the French Laundry so he definitely has the chops. I think this is exquisite.... as is this... and this...
  15. A flower for your birthday... Happy Birthday, [insert your choice of my terms of endearment which shall never be spoken aloud at a public gathering or written on a public forum]
  16. Happy Belated Birthday Erik! Hope you had a great day!!
  17. To one of the nicest guys on the board! Happy Birthday Mark!
  18. Pretty strong in Indy; I was holding onto the bed like I was on a raft. It was surreal; I was in such a deep sleep that it was disorienting. Initially I thought it was a thunderstorm. I went outside immediately expecting to see evidence of a storm, but it was peaceful, quiet, and the ducks were swimming about as if nothing had happened. I almost thought I dreamt it at that point.
  19. Be still my heart ...
  20. Happy Belated Birthday! A Thursday birthday is a great reason for extending the celebrating throughout the week-end!
  21. But the g-string seems to be a bigger hit.
  22. Best wishes on your special day!
