  1. That Griffin LP is great. I have it under the UK Youngblood Records issue, titled Foot Patting.
  2. Lovely set. This was the impetus for the Michael Cosmic/Phill Musra set on NowAgain.
  3. This is really something. Gonna take a long time to work my way through it, as it should be.
  4. The Raincoats -- s/t -- (Rough Trade, UK orig) followed by Ronald Shannon Jackson & The Decoding Society -- Nasty -- (Moers, GER orig)
  5. Indeed -- wanted to hear that stuff.
  6. Looks like there will be domestic CDs of these on the Valley of Search (VoS) label as well.
  7. wonder if we will see that planned International Phonograph box?
  8. the LP was reissued just shy of two years ago, actually, but the CD is good news indeed. The Fire Still Burns should be available pretty soon on LP as well.
  9. sick -- never saw that before, and I will certainly read it.
  10. According to collaborators, the English bassist, composer, and conceptualist Simon H. Fell has passed away at 61. Sad news -- a very individual individual!
  11. sideman on Sunny Murray Quintet and Frank Wright "Your Prayer" as well as an unissued quartet date with Marion Brown, Reggie Johnson (apparently), and Rashied Ali.
  12. https://next.liberation.fr/musique/2020/06/26/mort-de-jacques-coursil-jazzman-genial-et-figure-meconnue-de-la-modernite-noire_1792481 The Rogue Art is awesome, definitely recommended.
  13. According to his friend, writer Adam Shatz, the French-Martiniquan trumpeter and linguistics professor/theorist Jacques Coursil has passed at 82. He recorded as a leader for BYG and as a sideman with Frank Wright, Burton Greene, and Sunny Murray (along with unissued music with Marion Brown for ESP). He also studied with Bill Dixon. In 2005, he returned to recording with a CD for Tzadik and released several albums in succession. I always appreciated his sound and approach, and he seemed like a really interesting person though I never got the chance to meet or correspond with him. RIP.
  14. I certainly like his playing -- of course in Trio X with Joe McPhee and the dearly departed Dominic Duval, as well as with Cosmosamatics. There is a fine drum duo CD he made a couple of years ago (?) with Brian Willson, released by NotTwo. My limited personal experience with him: fine player, kind man.
  15. At this point I have the reissue of Intervall (great) and the Dragon LP (good), still not the Odeon LP (it pops up for sale in Sweden sometimes, but usually with a lot of cover wear). Wouldn't mind hearing those additional '63 tracks. I enjoy his playing quite a lot.
  16. not unreasonable at all. I only have this on LP but it's a very enjoyable date.
  17. yep. That seller does have a few things from my wants list, too.
  18. Cool. How shipping is to the US right now is another story...
  19. ha, yeah, I probably would have been one of those people at one point, but I'm glad to see this article in the Times & also glad to see a young black music writer getting published there, writing about creative music. Alkebulan is a great album.
  20. Been looking for that Merceron LP for a while... doesn't show up too often!
  21. How long was Santos in the band? I thought Mtume was the first regular conguero in Miles' group.
