  1. If they were completely hammered for those prices I would believe it. I've pissed away more money at a bar...
  2. Uh, I think you might be mistaken. He's pretty all over the map as you can see, not just free jazz and experimental music -- Gil Mellé, JR Monterose, Clifford Jordan... plus a lot of very in-the-pocket Scandinavian jazz.
  3. it's a great set. Have had 2 copies before.
  4. I don't know what Mats' plans are but wouldn't be surprised if it forms the backbone of a Darmstadt-like situation.
  5. nah, I've got about 5k (counted for insurance purposes) and he has way, way more. I'd assume closer to 10k and no, we're not seeing all of it in those photos. those Bells variations and the multiple ICP 001s give me the quakes.
  6. The guy who seems to run the education department had been following Allen's music & writing, and they struck up a conversation which turned into this series. That's how I understand it, anyway. FWIW he's (I assume it's the same person) also had Schaap and Ben Young teach/lecture/play recordings over the years.
  7. The Morgan doc screened briefly here in NY at Anthology Film Archives; unfortunately for some reason I missed it. Surely it'll be back (the same director did the Ayler film some years ago). I didn't know about the Grant Green documentary.
  8. Not sure where to put this (jazz education?) but mods could move it... Anyway, Allen Lowe is giving a four-part listen and lecture series at JALC here in New York. The first one focused on ragtime, gospel, country and minstrel music and was last night (Feb. 1). The next installation (modern jazz evolution) is at 7 PM on March 1. April and May dates are TBD. Allen is a great, loose and conversational lecturer and the musical examples were stunning. I recommend this series highly. These events are free for all and it occurs at the education room on the 5th floor of the 60th/B'way JALC/Dizzy's building.
  9. huh. Dunno why I couldn't find 45-777 before when I was hunting around.
  10. Yeah, I saw that going around on social media in December. Sad news -- excellent player. There are too many departures going around to keep track.
  11. I keep a lot of weird rare stuff that I don't play a whole lot. Someone needs to... right? The band on that Dempsey looks interesting, and I've never seen it before. Even if it's lame I'd probably buy one to check it out if I saw it.
  12. weird. That's not even in the Prestige 7" catalog on jazzdisco.org. there's an edited version (I think) that came out presumably a bit later: https://www.discogs.com/Miles-Davis-Dig-Its-Only-A-Paper-Moon/release/8501591
  13. I'm not a fan of Salina either and grew up just a couple hours east.
  14. Sorry to hear that. I think I do remember her.
  15. oh, haha, yeah I remember that vaguely. love Ornette but don't feel like I need the box. I went to the memorial service and it was incredibly deep.
  16. yeah, I understand it to be because the editors of each had a massive, massive falling out.
  17. I don't know if I was banned but after the NYC Jazz Record/AAJ split, where I stuck w/ the former, many of my articles had my byline removed and replaced with "staff." Then again, they were written so long ago that they may not even be up any longer and most of the html was broken due to their incessant, nonsensical updates. There are a couple of excellent writers still there, but I avoid the site at this point.
  18. V/A - Give Me Love: Songs of the Brokenhearted – Baghdad, 1925-1929 - (Honest Jon's, UK) great set I hadn't dug out in awhile
  19. Charles Mingus - East Coasting - (Bethlehem, JP Sony issue)
  20. so the o-board has outlasted AAJ and JazzCorner, right?
  21. was just going to pop in and post that one myself...
  22. thanks, gents!
  23. I never really thought of these outfits as 'post-rock' at the time, more an update on 'space-rock' perhaps, but the music of Flying Saucer Attack, Jessamine, Roy Montgomery and Windy & Carl, while diverse, certainly might appeal to some here. Saw a band last night that might appeal to the heavier/rockish tendencies upthread going by the moniker Horse Torso. Two guitarists, bassist and drummer (who seemed to be directing things) and in the vein of artists like Don Caballero, U.S. Maple, Cheer-Accident and Ativin. New group without an LP as of yet, but perhaps one to watch.
