  1. Both very good albums. I only have a CD-R of the Brown (not from DMG - friend burned me one), but look forward to a nice copy until an LP comes my way... The Brown is quite free, though there's kind of a funky tune called "Boat Rock."
  2. Steve Lacy/Yuji Takahashi/Takehisa Kosugi - Distant Voices - (Columbia, JP)
  3. Re: Altschul, I wonder if the falling out had something to do with his habit?
  4. Lytton/Schneider/Floridis/Moschner - Adonis - (JND, Greece)
  5. Both that and the Booker T. date on Silkheart (w/ Cyrille and Sarbib) are superb. Used to have the duos with Ibarra and remember digging that disc. Lost it somewhere along the way...
  6. I've got it. It's good.
  7. One of my favorites. Also that website seems pretty out of date (the guestbook doesn't work, and Denis' 70th birthday would have been in 2003). Too bad as I'd buy one of those t-shirts in a heartbeat.
  8. Wow. I must say that when the CD set of the Village Gate recordings was released a couple years back, the music's place in the annals of favorites was confirmed big time. One of the greatest improvisers ever.
  9. I always assumed TMS Records was the custom pressing plant and not Smith's label.
  10. Mats Gustafsson is convening an ensemble to perform Hidros ZAP, a reimagining of the music of Frank Zappa, at this year's festival in Sardinia. http://www.santannarresijazz.it/wordpress/hidroszap-direct-by-mats-gustafsson/ http://www.santannarresijazz.it/wordpress/
  11. Now: Eddie Bert - Encore - (Savoy, DG red label) fine, fine stuff with Klook, Joe Puma, J.R. Monterose and others.
  12. Ah, yeah I've never run into a copy of the silk screen original, though I've heard of its existence. Spoke too soon on this one, as the second side is pretty crackly. Oh well. There's always the Tzadik CD reissue...
  13. Leo Smith - Creative Music -1 - (Kabell, US) I've struggled over the years to find a quiet-enough sounding copy of this wonderful solo trumpet, flute and percussion LP. Just bought another that seems to be about as good as one could get.
  14. Exactly. Now: Pak Yan Lau/Chris Corsano - Asbestos & Little Rain - (Les Albums Claus, BE)
  15. ^ great record. Perhaps a little more rugged -- and in part due to the recording quality -- than Metamorphosis, at least in my opinion.
  16. Gato Barbieri & Dollar Brand - Confluence - (Freedom UK) Nice-sounding pressing that has had and will have to do until I get my hands on the Togetherness original. Quite enjoyable duets from 1968.
  17. still have my old Polydor LP as well -- one will eventually have to go, but right now they're sharing a berth.
  18. John Stevens - Spontaneous Music Ensemble - (Marmalade, UK orig) one of my favorites. The new CD reissue does it even better by adding two further cuts.
  19. ^ Perfect time of year for it
  20. The Soft Machine - s/t - (Probe, US spinning-wheel orig)
