  1. yeah, I first became aware of him on Out There with Mr. Dolphy. One can be assured that his tone and time will shine through on any session he took part in.
  2. ooh, I have that somewhere... fine later appearance of Mr. Moncur (III). Now: Hannibal and the Sunrise Orchestra -- The Light -- (Baystate, JP wlp)
  3. the pressing on the original is pretty rough from what I recall. I should probably buy the reissue.
  4. I'm not sure I can go this year, but it looks like the year to go. Congrats.
  5. Ha! I'm not always sure that people at Archive.org vet what's being thrown up there (Grateful Dead notwithstanding).
  6. yeah, well you figure a couple bottles of $500 wine a day... it's not SO bad... !!
  7. I assume people spending that kind of money do not either know or care if something is a fake. EBay also won't take that stuff down as they stand to make quite a bit of money.
  8. Seems like all sides are pretty dubious and/or f'ed.
  9. I've heard stories about the estate being tough to work with, if not impossible. I'd like to hear more Rivers archival material but the prospects seem unlikely. Issuing a 1960s recording where he appeared as a sideman proved quite daunting for both a label and bandleader and unfortunately had to be dropped. It's too bad.
  10. He is on Hatfield & The North's "Rotters Club" as well, which is an all-around excellent album.
  11. Miles Davis -- Miles Smiles -- (CBS, German 60s stereo press)
  12. he booted that Art Jackson's Atrocity (Henry Kaiser) thing as well, which was circulating for several years as a download until he put it out as a limited LP. He's also done this with stuff from Sun Ra trees. Here's another example and another example. Funkadelic is pretty funny, clearly just wrote on an old beat up stock black cover with glitter pen...
  13. yeah, it's hard to tell what you're getting sometimes, but with those paste-on covers and frequently cited as "no label" from Italy, they're all his. He also booted the rare Ron Everett "Glitter from the City" LP and sold it as an old-stock original. Nothing new in the world of psych and private rock dealing over the decades, but in jazz these waters are a little more uncharted.
  14. Yes. Probably got this stuff off of dime and had it pressed up with Dogtown etchings. He's legendary for these antics but people with money keep buying stuff from him and presumably don't care. He was also selling LPs of stuff grabbed from the old WKCR archives streaming site in editions of 99. Truly crass.
  15. It's a bootleg made by the seller, Emanuele Pinotti. He's done this before.
  16. he's American and doesn't use the umlaut. Also, Arthur Williams is great. He's on very few recordings so the stuff with Kuhn is essential.
  17. Ray Stephen Oché and His Matumbo - No Discrimination - (Esperance, FR)
  18. Haha! I do wonder if anyone who hears this music will actually go and seek out John Coltrane. It certainly appeals to a different, less jazz-centered audience.
  19. How is the sound and the notes on the Jordan? I have the Strata East LPs included but the unissued material entices. Then again, used ones on eBay recently have been hitting over $200 and I'm not sure that's worth it for a couple sessions only.
  20. should change the thread title to read Saft, not "Saff."
  21. Massimo Urbani - Dedication to A.A. & J.C./Max's Mood - (Red Record, IT)
  22. yeah, their archival stuff is pretty off-the-charts but the new releases are often quite excellent as well. the Kuhns (Livin' Right expanded and the new material) are both recommended. He's an excellent player and a good person.
  23. Heard this last night -- sad news. He seemed like quite a character, and both his visual and auditory art are fascinating. Have quite a lot of his LPs and tried on several occasions to interview him (couldn't get his gallery reps to help, alas).
