  1. Beating the Teens is good. Other than the Japanese stuff I'd say the Saravahs are my favorite Lacy recordings.
  2. Going to listen shortly. What is the Japanese obscurity percentage?
  3. Got a Dutch Fontana of that but I'd love to have the Debut... classic recording!
  4. thanks for the reminder on that book.
  5. Funny, I actually thought it was something more obscure than Moholo-Moholo and oddly didn't recognize his drumming. Will have to seek it out - Bergin sounds good as always. Never heard of Dale Fielder but it's nice to see Jane Getz making an appearance. That Carter Jefferson I've seen before but never picked it up - now I know to grab it. Now that I see it's John Hicks, it should have been obvious to me. But that is the great thing about BFTs and why I am so bad at them...
  6. Agreed. Dude works for NPR so hey, no wonder this blog has gotten a ton of press. Barf. Then again I doubt I could pay my g/f to go through my collection record by record and write about it.
  7. She's got a new two-disc set coming out with Mario Rechtern, Eric Zinman and Itaru Oki on Improvising Beings. Curious to hear it.
  8. Early ESPs were pressed at the Plastylite plant. I assume this is because of Stollman's connection to Moe Asch, as Folkways/Broadside also used Plastylite.
  9. You mean I might drive three hours only to hear the Dave Burrell version of Silent Night and Jingle Bells? It might still be good, and as long as he plays some Jelly Roll Morton... I believe he plays "Grandma got run over by a reindeer."
  10. I remember liking Effete and Impudent too but it's been a while.
  11. I haven't used HMV Japan but I'm sure they're legit. Boom-Jackie is the "shit" as they say. Its reputation is certainly deserved. Ran into an original the other day here in NY but it wasn't for sale!
  12. Acoustic and electric guitar duets. Incredible, intertwined minimal folk/classicism. Pretty sure it was on Jim O'Rourke's radar in the 1990s (or shoulda been). I've had it a couple times, if I find it again I'll let you know.
  13. I have parts but not the whole. Will grip.
  14. I'd like to hear that one - I don't own much early Gullin. Now: Vincent Le Masne et Bertrand Porquet - Guitares Derive - (Shandar, FR)
  15. that's a killer record!
  16. yeah, I discovered that Canadian postal hike recently - ouch.
  17. My copy of the Frank Rosaly 12" has lipstick on the sleeve. The story behind that is he said he was sending me one "sealed with a kiss." And I said "okay, it'd better be." Lo and behold he put lipstick on and kissed it. Also have a copy of Marc Levin's "Songs, Dances & Prayers" that was signed with a beautiful dedication to Bill Dixon, acquired after the maestro passed and his LP collection (i.e., not his own work) was divested.
  18. I still have my axe in the firewood.
  19. I don't have the Ronnie Ross but I do have the Japanese LP of Boom-Jackie and can confirm for anyone interested that it is indeed a "corker."
  20. Willi Kellers/Peter Brötzmann - Edelgard... Maar Helaas! - (FMP) Kellers is an underrated and superb drummer.
  21. Music in Sikkim / Music of the Buddhist Liturgy - (ABC Command, US)
  22. Agreed about The Ideal Bread. The Whammies are good but imho just don't have the level of daring that Sinton and co. bring to the music (and it's not like every IB take is my cuppa - there's just something about how they approach the music's possibilities).
