  1. I can kinda relate.
  2. yeah, I've got at least one Airplane reish on Dynaflex, and of course my copy of the Granicus is on that inferior wax (though it sounds superb).
  3. The earlier titles were issued on thicker "Dynagroove" vinyl, either black label or orange label, and sound fine.
  4. I love it when people who don't care about Norah Jones argue about Norah Jones on principle.
  5. yeah, that's been relisted countless times. Never gonna sell.
  6. this ain't Norah
  7. Yeah, that and Duster are excellent. I was less into Lofty Fake Anagram but would be willing to give it another shot. Had thought that BGO already released the twofer w/ Country Roads years ago - at least I remember something about it from a tray card insert.
  8. It probably depends on where you live who is filling the amphitheaters. In Texas, sure, lots of pop-country stars are cleaning up in the stadium game. On the east coast, r&b, Latin music and the poppier realm of hip-hop fill the stages. Never listened to Norah knowingly, though I'm sure I've heard her. She's supposedly a very nice lady. Friends in Austin have known her and had nothing but good things to say. I don't listen to pop music so can't judge. What's wrong with Phil Woods?
  9. Sad news. First Monk LP I ever heard was my dad's beat-up copy of Criss-Cross, and it was mind-blowing. Mr. Dunlop contributed a hell of a lot to that experience. RIP.
  10. not a fan of PDF's writing in general, though he does know some things about some things.
  11. Yeah, super heavy stock jacket - real nice, but not something I'd spend a ton of bread on. There are at least five pressings of this record. Now: Yamashita Yosuke - First Time - (Frasco, JP) w/ Jarman, Favors and Moye
  12. Roswell Rudd - Everywhere - (Impulse, mono) my copy of that Durium is definitely a first - small deep groove, etc. There is also a Cicala reissue from the 70s that uses the Durium's placid-looking white cover.
  13. I think I paid $40 for the Durium years ago. Strong session.
  14. They were budget reissues of material issued overseas first. Victrola was treated as the cheapie-bin classical label, whereas Red Seal was primarily new recordings in higher fidelity with better pressings. That's how I understand it anyway.
  15. I suppose this is Johnson's only appearance on record? He was the brother of trumpeter Dewey Johnson (sadly long departed from the scene and assumed deceased).
  16. Thick poly bag, all's fine.
  17. Those three Victrola LPs must've been among the best-selling avant-garde records in US vinyl history. There's a really nice Italian RCA LP boxed set of those recordings too.
  18. Be careful, you might get yourself a date!
  19. Had a well-worn 6 eye mono for years, finally let it go a few years ago. Need to get a fresh copy, 6-eye or Japanese. One of several classics I no longer own on LP! Potts is a monster - need to grab a copy of that soundtrack LP that Homefromtheforest refers to, though I hear the pressing can tend towards the "off" side. Mine is hand-painted with bits of gravel and sand stuck in the paint.
  20. This is very sad news indeed - what a great player! RIP.
