  1. Jazz and improvising musicians should read Doug Mosurock.

  2. Pretty sure the L train busker was dressed as Dave Kuswotth for Halloween.

  4. Wow. Sad news, but he led a long and distinguished life.
  5. Pasta sauce: 1 & book I was reading: 0

  6. Lou Reed made it possible for people like me to be cynical about Lou Reed. RIP.

  7. Wonderful night honoring the great Warren Smith at Roulette with the James Jabbo Ware Y'all of New York Orchestra. Truly sublime music a la the Loud Minority...

  8. Hope your copy sounds better than mine - looks good, but is very crackly. It was bought new (old stock) and sounds as quiet as a CD.
  9. Stockhausen - Kurzwellen - (DGG)
  10. It's great but I'd go for solo albums like Domestic & Public Pieces (Quark/Emanem), Lot 74 (Incus) or Improvisations (Cramps) to get you started. Not to mention Ballads & Standards on Tzadik, which are lovely. As far as group music is concerned, I'm personally a big fan of the early edition of Iskra 1903.
  11. Brought some work home with me: lighting directions and running notes for Einstein on the Beach, NYC 1976. Just in case I want to restage it in my apartment, you know...

  12. One of the greatest jazz records of the '60s.
  13. I don't know if I would have plunged into the world of "uneasy listening" without the introduction that bands like Sonic Youth, Mudhoney et al. provided.
  14. Wow. I've listened to this three times. It's heavy.
  15. What unfortunate news. I'll repost what I mentioned on facebook:
  16. I encountered Ronald Shannon Jackson in person once, in 2001 at the Vision Festival. I was standing and talking to the great bassist Juini Booth, and Jackson came up and embraced his old friend. Mr. Jackson was wearing black jeans, boots, a black shirt and sport coat; his long braids flowing out from underneath a wide-brimmed black hat. He had on super-sharp shades (we were inside) and he seemed like he came from an alternate Texas-related universe. What an amazing dude. May he rest in peace.

  17. Iowa Ear Music - 2nd Limited Edition - (Corn Pride)
  18. Abbey Rader/Marc Levin Duo - Songs of Street and Spirit - (Sweet Dragon)
  19. Correction + Mats Gustafsson - Shift - (No Business)
  20. Luc Ferrari - Presque Rien - (INA GRM)
  21. So what was the process by which Koester acquired the Ras and Byrd?
  22. Not an easy one to find...
  23. Never seen one with the Japanese text you're referencing, and I definitely have Japanese Impulse LPs as well as the red/black ABC pressings...
