  1. Alan Shorter - Tes Esat - (America, FR)
  2. Listening to people talk about how many "songs" they "have" on their Spotify playlists. I guess record collecting is over? FWIW I do have an iTunes library but I don't count it as a collection and don't brag about it.

  3. Phil Hey/Pat Moriarty - Let Them All Come - (Min) Strong drums/alto duos from the land of 10,000 lakes...
  4. Agreed. As Jackie said, Miles went and heard the band and that was it for his drummer. Same thing with Anthony Williams.
  5. "Album Covers in the Style of Patty Duke"
  6. Theo Loevendie - Stairs! - (Artone, NL)
  7. Dig both of these players. Will seek this one out.
  8. *some* Chicago jazz albums. Some are frighteningly rare. I have Indian Summer on LP and really enjoy it. The CD reissue was certainly welcome and necessary; I need to get those Delmark CDs too.
  9. Spinning this. Just bought it at Jazz Record Mart on a visit to Chicago. Wishing all Chicagoan, and other organissimo members, well. Heya, thanks for popping in. See you at one of those Grex shows I hope.
  10. Great cover on that one. I don't have this one but have found Duke's later output pretty consistent if not especially different or unusual. I had it - beautiful looking but kind of wallpaper-y in my estimation. Surprised that I somehow got $45 for it; guess people get excited.
  11. So what is our collective opinion on Alan Shorter? I wax and wane on his playing, though some of his compositions are pretty interesting and "Orgasm" is a great album.

  12. I've broken CDs in digipaks before too because the tolerances are too tight. It's pretty stupid and I'm not THAT hamfisted.
  13. Great interview. I linked it on Facebook as well, seems to be getting traction. Thanks to all.
  14. Yeah, but that said the Trio Hurricane CD on BS still eludes me in its physical form... my understanding is that some of the weirder ones weren't around for very long and not in great numbers to begin with.
  15. Brigitte Fontaine & Areski - Je Ne Connais Pas Cet Homme - (Saravah/Columbia JP)
  16. It's good but I don't know if it's desert island good. Western Front's shipping prices are completely out to lunch, too, even to the US. I know Canada Post's rates have gone up, but they're not charging usual LP shipping prices. It seems closer to book mailing prices.
  17. Heavy action at DBA last night.

  18. I can totally understand Chuck's point, too. Bought Nessas and Blue Note twofers around the same time, all used, when I was getting into the music in the mid/late '90s. Glad to have both well represented in my collection.
  19. Great day in CT with Bobby Naughton, Carl Testa and Anne Rhodes, as well as the Uncertainty Music Series participants. And Pepe's Pizza.

  20. Lunchtime browse at the Jazz Record Center. Witnessed Fred Cohen get grueled by a couple of middle-aged guys asking about 180 gram vinyl and whether vinyl was better than CDs. Pretty funny and his answers were exactly what I would have said.

  21. A major figure. RIP.
  22. Zbigniew Namyslowski - Quartet - (Muza)
  23. Cover letter for a freelance music writing job? Huh. "I can write and I know a lot about weird and normal music. The end."

  24. I really wish the person running the Jack Bruce Facebook page was as cool and interesting as Jack Bruce probably is. Aside from Cream, there's Neil Ardley, Mike Taylor, Carla Bley, (Anthony) Williams, and his own stunning solo records. No more "How are my fans today??" posts please. How about some history? If you run an artist's Facebook page, please make it relevant and powerful (a la Bill Dixon's page).
