  1. gotcha. My opinion, perhaps not shared by everybody, is that the BYG Actuel catalog should remain entirely in print with original artwork on CD and LP. I would say that between BYG and America (Pierre Berjot), the catalogs are at least as (if not perhaps more) important than a sizable amount of Blue Notes. Ditto ESP though that's a bit of a different beast.
  2. Chappaqua Suite. It was on CBS France and also Sony Japan as a double LP, then reissued later (90s) by Columbia Europe. It's great.
  3. I didn't really encounter much of the dreaded "boom" when listening to it online.
  4. So, I would assume the license is only for a short period of time. That's very interesting. Aquariana, Africanasia, Hommage to Africa, and Other Afternoons are all wonderful albums. Glad they're slated for a rehearing.
  5. Cool. I've never had any Solid CDs; probably licensed from Charly, who were responsible for the Affinity reissue as well. Even if sourced from vinyl, it could be done from a quieter pressing than the original Actuel.
  6. Agreed. The Henderson/Tyner is "enjoyable" as this one probably is as well. Worth probably grabbing the CD version but not necessarily the insane hype (which I've seen more of regarding the former). I'll pick both up at some point, but not flipping my lid either (and I certainly dig Tolliver).
  7. Yes! Heard that a little later, so awesome. He plays a bit like that on the Charles Brackeen, owing somewhat to the choice of amplification I assume.
  8. Haden is on the first and last tracks of Orgasm, and Reggie Johnson is on the rest. Not sure on what record he first grabbed me sonically; probably Change of the Century, which was also the first Ornette album I bought. Played it to death in college.
  9. nah, he's in excellent form and that's enough for me, but...
  10. FWIW, I'm not hearing much of the "out"-ness that was described to me by an early listener of the material on this set (well before it was announced). It's good, though, and I'm glad it is available.
  11. Would be nice to just walk over to the Sam Records shop and pick up some titles!
  12. That 2019 thread is a bit all over the place (pun not intended).
  13. wow, thanks! The vocal ensemble layers sound like Ligeti or something. So heavy! FWIW I have the Atlantic record but haven't listened to it in ages. I remember liking it but not a lot of specific details.
  14. I have downloaded it on Apple Music and it works fine for me through standalone computer speakers. Excellent set. I'll grab the CDs.
  15. I wonder if the compression for platforms like Apple & Spotify worsen the bass overload from what one might hear on CD.
  16. got all those LPs and can concur with Pim's recommendations!
  17. great ones, for sure. I have the Dreher set spread across two double LPs. The Waldron-Hino is a beaut, picked up on Japanese vinyl when it was a more affordable title.
  18. Funny Funky is personally my favorite of the bunch.
  19. Thanks. I need to actually get these... but then again, finding the time to dig into them and do the necessary work might be daunting nowadays.
  20. I haven't dug the vinyl of A Little Bit Of Miles out in many years but don't recall anything like that. Certainly possible it's on the record and I just don't remember. Blues for Lady Day is ok, not one of Mal's best. Certainly not bad, but as Pim says in his blog, not particularly emotional or tense, and kind of phoned-in. As far as soli go, The Opening (Futura), All Alone (GTA), and On Steinway (Overseas/Carson) are three of my favorites. The Snake Out blog is essential to get one started on the Mal journey!
  21. yeah, got a notice too. Pierre's essay is great. I have all this stuff already but hoarders gonna hoard! I am sure the sound is a lot better, too.
  22. I can't get too excited about the IG original-vinyl show and tell, personally. Not much deep observation in the commentary, either. Organissimo forums expat homefromtheforest is pretty good though and an exception, as well as a couple others.
  23. Aww. From the meows I could tell s/he wanted the "up-up." What a sweet kitty.
