  1. So we're all set, then, and ready to roll?
  2. Shit! I was corresponding with him for a minute; seemed like a nice guy and definitely a great player. RIP.
  3. Wonder whether sending them a wants list of LPs would get a response...
  4. Hoping that Hum Dono makes it out as an LP reissue or Vocalion/Dutton Labs CD, BGO, anything...
  5. Last really great exh. I saw was in November at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis - three levels (I hesitate to call them floors) dedicated to the work of Yves Klein. I've always liked Klein a lot - the Restany book from, I think, the late '60s, is fabulous - but one usually gets to see only one or two Kleins in a gallery. This was a broad, detailed overview, absolutely stunning and well-hung. An odd character, for sure, but definitely not a charlatan and the colors/forms are absolutely mind-melting.
  6. I am mostly familiar with only one "side" of this situation, and can't really detail things from Horwich's perspective (maybe he'll pipe in), so if you want to know what I understand vis-a-vis the Dixon estate & this project, feel free to PM me.
  7. Clearly, they're made for each other...
  8. Yeah... I would like to see the Hum Dono part of such a package but its connection to the Indo-Jazz records might make it too much of a ringer, esp. if we - we being Mosaic's A&R - but a select w/ the early 60s quintet sides makes the most sense, especially if it were the material licensed from EMI.
  9. Nice array!
  10. Free Form was issued as a UK Jazzland, I know that much.
  11. that Dahlgren might make its way into the Pay-It-Forward thread, I can just feel it...
  12. Yeah, I have the Transatlantic of that one - fantastic record!
  13. yeah, yank the Jazzland and Melodisc titles out and you'd have a slimmer box. If it didn't have the Indo-Jazz stuff you might be able to fit it all onto a Select; those other recs aren't that lengthy.
  14. Looks like they'll be putting out a 2LP of Ware's Onecept (CD on Aum last year), which I thought was good too.
  15. Wow - great idea. I'd most certainly buy it.
  16. Yeah, it's a good one - have enjoyed this on wax for years. Lots of diverse stuff in the BAG bag - I'm quite partial to Children of the Sun (Ajule rules) and the Solidarity Unit LP.
  17. Edit/bump because I found another copy of the new Perry Robinson trio date.

  19. Ah, a breath of fresh air. Nice!
  20. Yes indeed. I think he's doing a good thing. I also think the project could be done differently (understanding as I do the amount of archival material available through the estate, which would be accessible), but it would also take longer and add more cost - which, in the era of declining CD sales, is a valid concern.
  21. Those are really nice copies, though...
  22. Sorry to hear this. Nice man and a great musician.
  23. It's a complex situation from the Dixon side of things, but RCA/BMG did license the masters to International Phonographic. As I understand it, RCA/BMG also notably refused to sell Dixon the masters, or lease them back to him directly, in the not-too-distant past. Maybe this is not uncommon - I don't know.
  24. Not according to Wikipedia; I know he's no longer playing and his health has been spotty in recent years, but as far as I know he's still alive. Far out guy to interview, he was.
