  1. A.R. Penck - Afrika Para Noia - (Weltmelodie) whoever this uncredited baritone saxophonist is, he's good.
  2. Code 81 in Aisle Seven!
  3. Funny; I think that a few of Mojo's choices are actually good ones. I'm partial to the first 10 ECMs, but there are others that are top notch.
  4. I didn't know there was a style other than that damn face-in-the-cup cover.
  5. David S. Ware - From Silence to Music - (Palm) Especially dig the unaccompanied solos on side two.
  6. My copy of Duke Pearson's Wahoo has the back cover label affixed upside down. Not uncommon; I've had one like that too.
  7. Yup, the one I was looking at had 19 discs at $50. This was the same guy who had a Mercury box of Bach's cello suites (Starker) for $100. I should have nabbed that one as well - never gonna see a deal like that again!
  8. I almost bought one of those sets at a good price, until I saw it was missing one of the LPs!
  9. P-Vine are often pretty limited. I thought it'd be around for longer, though.
  10. Yeah, that's what I have too. I'd like to get the one with Charlie Mariano as well. But yes, Tyner's Blue Note run is pretty sweet. Glad to have all those.
  11. Oh yeah, I agree JS - music is pretty much what you got when the going gets rough - and I think it probably is for everybody on this board, myself included. Then again, maybe I wouldn't be as broke as I am if I took a breather on buying old Blue Notes and so forth...
  12. I'm not an audiophile, but I don't want crappy-sounding records either... admittedly, a hammered early BN pressing might still sound okay, but I'd much prefer a solid, crisp King issue or a frickin' CD and avoid the hassle of skips, crackle, etc. Should we be concerned, chewy?
  13. I'd take Brownie's advice as well. Most of these I have in King or Toshiba Japanese pressings (at least the 1500 series). The Van Gelder Liberty's of his 4000 series LPs all sound good, so I can vouch for those as well. The early Mobley BNs have been at the $1000+ mark for years with no sign of slowing.
  14. Oh, that's out now? Had heard rumors that something might happen.
  15. What a good listening day you had. And a good deal on the Dixon - I saw a mono go for nearly $100 recently. Too bad Judith Dunn wasn't credited for the liner notes, which are very informative. That LP just gets deeper with each listen - you are in for a treat.
  16. That "East Coast Cool" stuff with Allan Chase is real nice, too.
  17. I'd be interested to hear it in mono. Unbelievably great record.
  18. "Ain't no time to hate / Barely time to wait"
  19. Despite being over 30 years old, you OWE it to yourself to own this record. One of the best (semi-) underground rock records in existence.
  20. The 2009 Kwanzaa stamp design has been released. I'm not one for stamp collecting, but when I was at the PO the other day and saw a sign for the "Lloyd McNeill" design I got pumped - his Asha LPs are very rare and intriguing 1970s soul-jazz offerings. Great to see his name in the popular consciousness. Perhaps our DC board members have some insight; he is quite active, apparently, on the DC cultural scene today.
  21. Buschi Niebergall!
