  1. Joel Dorn did some producing of jazz artists like Yusef Lateef and Byard Lancaster... Richard Cook's BN biography is a nice read.
  2. Would make sense about Clark. I remember doing a double-take upon looking at the personnel when I got it.
  3. Which, I might add, is f'in fantastic...
  4. Giorgio Buratti - A Smooth Day - (Durium) w/ Byard, Richmond, Bobby Jones and Eddie Preston. But it don't sound like Mingus...
  5. Obviously they can't hold her up -
  6. My mono of A-95 was $30 a few years ago, in very nice shape (just a little yellowing on the back of the gatefold). Keep in mind that there are a few pressings of the Bob James on ESP. My red-label mono (Folkways style jacket) was about $30, but I'm sure it could be had either for less or more, depending on the day and the pressing. It's a fantastic session.
  7. Welcome, moonshine - a poster after my own heart, in both name and musical tastes. BAM put out some really nice ethnic records as well as some fine electronic/musique concrete LPs in the mid-60s. Most of the titles on this label are very scarce.
  8. Philly Joe Jones - Trailways Express - (Black Lion) Fantastic set, IMHO, but one of those I often forget I own. With Ronnie Scott, Kenny Wheeler, Harold McNair, John Hart, etc.
  9. I read the Marco Eneidi and Marc Edwards interviews Taran did for AAJ. Needless to say, he's got it.
  10. New York Art Quartet - Mohawk - (Dutch Fontana orig)
  11. Wolfgang Dauner - Output - (ECM) w/ Eberhard Weber and Fred Braceful
  12. Theo Loevendie - Kwartet - (Universe) w/ Dulfer, Gorter, van Duynhoven Love this band, and the tunes!
  13. Trane/Shepp - New Thing at Newport - (Impulse! red/black)
  14. I still get a kick out of this, gentleman that I am...
  15. Just Wailin' - w/ Charlie Rouse, Mal Waldron, Kenny Burrell et al., on New Jazz. The Village Gate records on Atlantic. Memphis Underground is not bad, actually. The Savoy always looked really cool to me, though I haven't heard it. He could definitely "play" and had a penchant for, when he was on, surrounding himself with good players.
  16. Sad news. I recall a nice interview with him a year or two ago in AAJ.
  17. Bought (and still have) a mono copy in 1968. Still play it and enjoy it. Very scarce in the mono these days...
  18. For you, not for me...
  19. Free jazz isn't an option in this questionnaire? Even Ken Burns might've allowed for that!
  20. Alexander von Schlippenbach Trio - Pakistani Pomade - (FMP)
  21. I don't know about the reissue, but the original has a very nice textured sleeve. Good to rub on a freshly-shaven cheek.
  22. Writing, reading, thinking, being. The AAJ interview might elucidate some things for some people.
  23. I thought Windmill Tilter was reissued.
  24. Now: Ahmed Abdullah - Life's Force - (About Time) w/ Muneer Fatah, Rashied Sinan, Vincent Chancey, Jay Hoggard and Jerome Hunter
  25. Yes, excellent, with Rene Liebowitz directing the symphony. I like the sound, too, though it may not be up to "modern" presence... Whoops, left out the "Op." there. This is the only Dial classical I have, but it's a fantastic disc. Possible that some of Ross' correspondence from you is in the Ross Russell papers here at the Harry Ransom Center.
