  1. More UK Fontana, stereo. What’s Euromodernistic about a bag of chips?
  2. Fontana, Mono. Maybe coming up for a domestic reissue as part of the ‘Explosion’?
  3. Various colour and B&W images mainly from the CTS Images archive of each band member, more B&W ones of Brooks. One blurred colour photo of Brooks in action at Left Bank on the inner sleeve of the LP set.
  4. Nice to see this series being played. I will dig out the Hubbard, Mingus and MJQ sets today (subject to finding them).
  5. Sorry ! Glad it’s not my bank account. The Gibbs/Burton is indeed interesting - a bit lo fi would be the only negative I would give it.
  6. In fact, everything on this relaunched Turtle Records imprint is worth getting hold of. Not a dud amongst them. The Joy Marshall release with Gordon Beck’s Quartet (inc. McLaughlin) is a particular gem.
  7. Recommended - cheap as chips, swings like crazy and Simon Spillett’s usual excellent essay. Just noticed that the arrangements are by saxophonist Tony Roberts of the Dankworth Orchestra, Ray Russell Group etc. He is still musically active in the West Dorset area and thereabouts.
  8. You’re not the only one to have let that one gather dust. Rosa Klebb stirring the drinks?
  9. Glad to hear it’s OK. I must admit, have never been a fan of those orange label Jazzlands from the US on the sonic front.
  10. A couple of excellent new Jazz In Britain releases.
  11. I used to run a Pioneer SX-650, late 1970s through the 1980s. Good receiver, excellent for FM reception. Combined with a Dual turntable, JVC tape deck and Mission speakers. The Pioneer is still operational with the recipient after I had finished with it. Never serviced !
  12. Spun the vinyl of Vol 2 - very nicely recorded. Brilliant ! Worth the wait !
  13. I would be interested to hear what you think when you get it. Conjures up images of numbers stations and skullduggery !
  14. Very pleased with the sound on this Strut CD reissue - the sound on the second CD alternate mix is more than passable !
  15. They’ve also done compilations of Polish Jazz and at least one compilation of the Novi Singers. Been meaning to check those out. Next stop - Albanian/Macedonian Jazz 1960-1990 perhaps?
  16. This one - Just found my copy and also the Forum West.
  17. Bought both sets of that one on 2LP vinyl back in the day. More stuff to dig out.
  18. Not forgetting that they did an Eddie Henderson/Gary Bartz UK tour back 10 years + ago now. A fine endeavour !
  19. With you there. Just the mention of the wedge of suet has me heading towards the vomitorium..
  20. With a bit of luck perhaps they will be reissued under Decca’s latest reissue programme with the Gearbox mastering. Maybe they were just produced over there in far greater quantity? These would have been Bill Grauer issues and if my memory is right, he ended up bankrupting Riverside/Jazzland due to overproduction of LPs that didn’t sell (no doubt then followed by dumping them in the deletions bins).
  21. Good that it got me to dig this one out of my black hole too. It benefited from a spin under the record cleaning machine. One or two pops but sounds nice and crisp.
