  1. I’ve even seen some jazz in Coventry (well, Warwick Arts Centre - close enough). No sign of Lady Godiva.
  2. They got good distribution here in the early batches - the one with the Fats Navarro, Coltrane ‘Countdown’ and Byrd ‘Long Green’. I guess the damned accountants latched on before those later issues came out, so they then became a more elusive US import. Early 80s oil shock can’t have helped either. The ones over here were the EMI Electrola I think, very good sound too. Mole, HMV etc. had many of them in the deletions bin. Happy days ! I still have all of the ones I bought and pick up the US ones when I come across them. I have the ‘Black California Vol 2’ I think.
  3. Helen Reddy? Sad news - she was a major star back in the day. RIP.
  4. The second Sunbeam reissue. Jazzier than the first, with Stan Tracey and Trevor Tompkins. Beautifully recorded by Adrian Kerridge.
  5. RSD numbered replica reissue from the Lansdowne series put out by Sunbeam. Brilliant ! Paging Chewy - this guy was No. 1 influence on Keith Emerson and Jon Lord.
  6. Andrew’s handwriting script wasn’t the greatest. Same for me !
  7. Still got my ‘Brothers and Other Mothers’ Vols 1 and 2 twofers. I think only Vol 1 came out in the UK so must have been a big seller.
  8. Short video about the book ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsvkbDjHly4
  9. I just had a personalised ‘Thank You’ on mine - I was delighted !
  10. Yes, typical of Liberty era Blue Notes. More ‘oomph’ than my Rare Groove version and better soundstage.
  11. I think I saw this as part of a jazz films season at one of the independent cinemas as part of my student days, back when it was released. Recall Bill Dixon was in it. Already on my Amazon list !
  12. I had a chat with him whilst he was supping a beer backstage after a later gig in the noughties - very nice guy. He signed my Mosaic booklet and some CDs too. I was saddened by his comment that he rarely got to do the tourist thing when he travelled round to all these places. He was in Bath at the time and the obvious thing would have been to check out the local sights such as the Roman Baths but alas, not on the agenda.
  13. Remember seeing him with George Coleman’s Octet around 1980 so it must have been a rare escape and trip over to Europe. Fine player - indeed, it was a very fine band.
  14. Fantastic clear skies and high teens temps. yesterday - perfect walking weather.
  15. I remember Wilson on TV coming across as a bit pompous, so no doubt he used some of that too and you are correct.
  16. Tony Wilson of Factory Records? The Partridge character originated in the early 1990s, s lot earlier than the film. I always thought it was a composite but probably quite a lot of Coogan himself in Partridge.
  17. His ‘Alan Partridge’ seems to have lost it of late but he was good as Stan Laurel - and Paul Raymond.
  18. I saw him with Eddie Henderson covering their various fusion projects. Happy Birthday, Mr Bartz !
  19. I’ve got that one somewhere. Sabina Sciubba did a couple of nice recordings for the Naim label, including one with Antonio Forcione.
