  1. Short video about the book ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsvkbDjHly4
  2. I just had a personalised ‘Thank You’ on mine - I was delighted !
  3. Yes, typical of Liberty era Blue Notes. More ‘oomph’ than my Rare Groove version and better soundstage.
  4. I think I saw this as part of a jazz films season at one of the independent cinemas as part of my student days, back when it was released. Recall Bill Dixon was in it. Already on my Amazon list !
  5. I had a chat with him whilst he was supping a beer backstage after a later gig in the noughties - very nice guy. He signed my Mosaic booklet and some CDs too. I was saddened by his comment that he rarely got to do the tourist thing when he travelled round to all these places. He was in Bath at the time and the obvious thing would have been to check out the local sights such as the Roman Baths but alas, not on the agenda.
  6. Remember seeing him with George Coleman’s Octet around 1980 so it must have been a rare escape and trip over to Europe. Fine player - indeed, it was a very fine band.
  7. Fantastic clear skies and high teens temps. yesterday - perfect walking weather.
  8. I remember Wilson on TV coming across as a bit pompous, so no doubt he used some of that too and you are correct.
  9. Tony Wilson of Factory Records? The Partridge character originated in the early 1990s, s lot earlier than the film. I always thought it was a composite but probably quite a lot of Coogan himself in Partridge.
  10. His ‘Alan Partridge’ seems to have lost it of late but he was good as Stan Laurel - and Paul Raymond.
  11. I saw him with Eddie Henderson covering their various fusion projects. Happy Birthday, Mr Bartz !
  12. I’ve got that one somewhere. Sabina Sciubba did a couple of nice recordings for the Naim label, including one with Antonio Forcione.
  13. The sonics are excellent at 45rpm - and the music is a winner too. A find ! Much more of a straight-ahead hard bop session than expected from Don Cherry.
  14. I see in the alternative universe of the Hoffmann Forum that people are currently reporting paying 60 Euro to $100 Cdn in their stores for the Evans. About 1.5 times what the stores are charging here. Outrageous ! It’s just the occasional random ‘pop’, nothing major. The Mingus was pristine though.
  15. Missed this one the first time round. A few annoying crackles, which seems to be a common complaint with this pressing/title.
  16. The predictable turmoil in Halls of Residence, not helped by ‘Freshers Week’ partying, at a lot of these ‘establishments’. They can stay in their bubbles !
  17. The ‘Redux’ 60th Anniversary 2LP edition. Looks like a Mark Wilder mastering, nice, big and crisp sound. Side 4 has alternates which I don’t think are on the ‘Mosaic Complete Columbia’. Next up - 60s Scandinavian jam featuring Don Cherry on Gearbox. 45rpm.
  18. Picked up for a fiver in mint after getting my early morning RSD batch 2 items. A gem !
  19. Yes, picked up a copy of that one too. Sounds superb - apart from some clicks on the run in on one side. Sadly, sold out now so can’t replace. Even so, wouldn’t want to be without it. In addition to fine work by Ron as usual, I really like Renee Rosnes’ playing on this performance. The live atmosphere is also captured well. In&Out tell me that they have an upcoming Ramon Valle Trio vinyl release with the same treatment and signatures, which will be tempting.
  20. A special service laid on by Impulse for this release - trash/lose/obliterate/nuke/coat in stinky wallpaper paste prior to delivery, in the unlikely event that it gets past the release stage. Jeez - I’m trying to eat my lunch..
  21. Yes, both under-rated, although Kenny Clarke and Derek Humble are missed in the lineup. Just arrived - Live from the UCL Union. Remember seeing some folk gigs there, no jazz though.
