  1. Happy Birthday !
  2. Wonderful band, wonderful album. Japanese New Jazz. Yep, McLure is really excellent. Have only seen him the once, in an Adderley tribute band which had George Duke and Lenny White. Uptown LP
  3. Absolutely - they are burning on this one and the live atmosphere at The Lighthouse is very well captured. Sticks Hooper and Wilton Felder in particularly good form. ’Chile Con Soul’ more of a curiosity - obviously with an eye on the easy listening market. Well worth a spin though.
  4. There’s probably a potential thread to be had here on ‘Jazz and the Olympics’. I remember seeing on TV Maynard Ferguson doing a solo trumpet feature - must have been the Montreal Olympics. Either that or the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton.
  5. There’s also John Litweiler’s book ‘Ornette Coleman: A Harmolodic Life’, which fits the bill for me (need to re-read my copy). May be quicker?..
  6. Same here - a couple of wishy-washy tracks on ‘Reach Out’ but some hard bop nuggets in there as well.
  7. Blast from the past - a common sight in the racks, back in the day.
  8. Maybe Manfred has bought a top-end deck? !
  9. Same here - use with L’Art du Son cleaning fluid I’ve been very happy with it. Makes quite the noise but not an issue.
  10. I’m likely in for the 2LP.
  11. I see in the Urban Dictionary it is something to do with mooning out of bus windows. Well, you learn something every day.. Music by the late Mike Taylor, lyrics by Ginger Baker.
  12. That one should run for 288 pages + !
  13. An exemplary reissue.
  14. Damn - was really hoping he would pull through. Will spin that Graham Bond Organisation box in tribute this afternoon - RIP. At least he lived a good long and eventful life, unlike his mentor Phil Seaman. I’ve never seen that brew - and always wondered where the song title came from. Alton, Hants - now I know !
