  1. Not heard that one - interesting !
  2. Could it be a Tubby-tastic weekend coming up then? Hope so. I’ve ordered the CD version as well, so that I have all the alternates. There’s dedication to the cause for you. The CD set is likely to get more play as well. Not even heard the ‘Grits’ album yet either so that will be a nice surprise too.
  3. Pretty sure it was Herbie Lewis on bass when I saw this group. ‘Amsterdam After Dark’ had just been released and they covered many of the tracks. Both Coleman and Higgins were colossal ! Got that one on vinyl - will dig out.
  4. My assumption over here is that Universal will be shipping my wadge of vinyl out next week. Wishful thinking, perhaps?
  5. Crikey - did I really start this thread back in 2004? !!!!
  6. Saw him quite a few times - both with George Coleman (smiling Billy Higgins on drums) and various groups of his own. I think the last time was at Royce Hall in LA and it was free ! The RCA Novus releases (‘El Camino’, ‘Strut’) are recommended.
  7. Talking of Tolliver - Pure Pleasure have just reissued his ‘Live at the Loosdrecht Jazz Festival’ on vinyl. Need to get hold of that - and still kicking myself for selling the old Black Lion 2LP for next to nothing.
  8. I was in the audience for this one. Giovanni Hidalgo in the lineup as well.
  9. Lovely UK CBS mono copy
  10. One of my favourites for 2019 - 4CD set.
  11. I’ve been saying that for about 15 years..
  12. Took a detour once to check them out in person. Quite memorable ! The Coltrane album is a definite ‘find’ - some lovely music on there, albeit short tracks - and in RVGs superb mono sound. Vinyl version recommended ! Too bad about the side 2 of the pressing - clicks and pops. Without that issue, an excellent release. Probably better vinyl quality than the original A&M Horizon too (which were on the thin side, typical of that vintage).
  13. Agree - and add ‘Knucklebean’.
  14. Reissue was 20% off today at HMV so - result ! As was this -
  15. Happy Birthday !
  16. Edition Records
  17. Saw the section with Duke and McCurdy and I think also Walter Booker - but not sure - at a Cannonball/Nat tribute about 20 years ago. Vincent Herring was on alto, not sure about the trumpet but likely Roy Hargrove. Nat Adderley was on stage and enjoying it all, sadly by then he was wheelchair bound. The only other time I have seen Walter Booker he was with Bertha Hope.
  18. ‘Torrid Zone’ is definitely recommended on the basis of the mastering alone. I have quite a few of them on vinyl and it is so good that this set is the ‘go to’. Can’t ask for more than that !
  19. One of my favourites of the ‘Brown Bag’ twofer series. Still have it - even though I play the Mosaic more often these days.
  20. A shop over here called Habitat were even at one time selling box framed art of this sleeve art for a relative pittance. I’ve got one sat in my lounge.
  21. I guess you must have been a few years ahead of me when more of those legends were around. Let me guess - about 1987/88 when Shorty Rogers was still touring the UK and Europe. I remember seeing Lester Bowie Brass Fantasy around that time too. There was a heck of a lot of good stuff I missed too in the mad crush scramble between the halls at ‘Ahoy’, Rotterdam (think that’s what it was called).
  22. Roll on the Lee Morgan studio/live 70s Mosaic box !
