  1. Great little time-capsule film - priceless. Particularly enjoyed seeing footage of Ed Thigpen’s ‘Action-Reaction’ and Dannie Richmond in action. Dig Jack Walrath’s suit !
  2. For once, in the history of these Isles, the South was cut off whilst Manchester et al were clear. It was so bad that the villages were kept supplied by helicopter. As for me, I was furious at missing Gil’s band but got to see him 3-4 years later.
  3. Thanks for that - tempted to pick one of these up just to check the series out. Don’t have ‘Mr Shing A Ling’ so that would be the one, maybe, to try out. I have an original mono ‘Black Fire’ so will pass on that one, great though the title is. The HMV store was blasting out Lou’s ‘The Natural Soul’ so they were doing everything to get me to buy.
  4. Spinning UK RCA... Had a ticket for one of the concerts on this tour. Unfortunately, snowed in and couldn’t make it !
  5. A bit of a change.. (naturally)
  6. I was amazed to see pretty well all of these Tone Poets at my local HMV this morning. At nearly £41 a pop though they are a pretty expensive proposition. Not sure I want to pay that for a copy of ‘Mr Shing A Ling’. I can buy a Liberty for that !
  7. Cover photo looks to be from the same session as this one..
  8. This Coltrane release seems to be coming out on the same day (Sept 27th) as the Tubby Hayes Fontana box set. Universal Music battle of the tenors ? I like what I hear from that Spotify track. Sort of variations of ‘Out of this World’ done in the slightly free-er style of the later ‘Coltrane Plays..’ album. Very nice.
  9. Things carry on pretty well as normal here.
  10. Very Happy Birthday !
  11. From the big Joe box..
  12. Fresh Sounds reissue
  13. or a submariner !
  14. Australian World Record Club
  15. The Pathe Marconis are on pretty lightweight vinyl, which I don’t think helped them much. Having said that, the Japanese Kings are similar in that respect and sound umpteen times better. I remember Brownie posting here some years back about the DMMs and saying words to the effect that they were a travesty. Unlike teeth, still got all of mine though.
  16. The Pathe Marconi French Blue Notes came out in the 1980s. The main gripe with them was that they were mostly DMM.
