  1. The Collier reissues were most definitely legit - Graham had a guiding hand in their release. I’ve found every BGO release I’ve heard to be excellent. Not heard the Thad & Mel but I’d be surprised if it was otherwise.
  2. Saw them in Swanage a few years ago - rocking the pulpit of the Methodist church more than it has ever been rocked. That band had 2 drummers, including Seb Rochford. Just in - Westbrook Records ‘In Memory Of Lou Gare’. Very nice tribute album from Mike & Co. with live features from Lou. I was at 3 of the performances featured and great to be reminded of them.
  3. My local shop has a copy. I’ll pick up next time I visit, good to know that the proceeds will be directed accordingly.
  4. I remember that Mosaic ‘Black Friday’ when quite a number of sets disappeared abruptly because of that stamper issue. Off the top of my head, it affected the Dinah Washington and Lou Donaldson big boxes, as well as a whole raft of Selects (Art Pepper, Pacific Jazz Trios, Johnny Mercer, Dexter + probably a few others). Pandemonium panic on the board that day with no stone left unturned to find sets for sale on the internet.
  5. Clifford Brown Complete Emarcy Box, CDs 7 and 8
  6. My box (bought in Canada) has the full sized extra CD with ‘Flossie Lou’. Although it says ‘Nippon Phonograph Ltd’ the CDs booklets look to have been manufactured in what was then West Germany, with the CDs made by ‘PDO Hanover’. The RRK set also has a bonus disk (of live material with Andrew Hill). Both absolutely fabulous box sets and at the time they were released, exemplars of state of the art quality (Music and quality of manufacture).
  7. Caught the second set last night - wonderful. Buster in very good form. ’Smalls’ was on a roll as well with fine performances by the Craig Handy and Ralph Peterson groups.
  8. Wasn’t there a time limit on the two Vee-Jay sets - presumably part of the licence agreement? I remember those two hitting ‘last chance’ pretty abruptly - so abruptly that there was an allmighty scramble to grab the few copies left.
  9. As I have just olive oiled my ears after a particularly unpleasant ear infection I am in for a sonic upgrade as I check out both GG sets.
  10. Yet to complete the play-through of the full 3LP Grant Green France set. Will put that right this weekend. Like what I’ve heard and its for both sets. Agree that the Vancouver set fills an important gap - certainly quite different from e.g. the Kudu release.
  11. Recent reissue on a mystery label called Grey Scale. Odd, when BGO issued it not long ago.
  12. I’m usually a sucker for Trunk releases and had my finger on the order button a couple of days ago for the super cool looking multi-colour version. Afraid to say that the KPM samples did nothing for me and was not a fan of the TV series. Probably just me ! Ah well..
  13. I remember seeing Skidmore play with Elvin’s Jazz Machine. Pat Labarbara was the other tenor. CD4
  14. UK Verve. Mesrs Ardley et Hiseman in garb avec molls in Epping Forest..
