Damn - that’s a shame. Most of them are on there over here - Shaw, Diz, Hubbard, Baker, Johnny Guitar Watson.
The Diz is quite nice - nothing earthshattering but a good listen.
Just glad that I got to see him play. RIP, the Blue Note albums will be spun this weekend.
89 is not a bad innings but even so - very sad news. I didn’t always like his music but one of the great innovators - yes.
BBC Radio did an interesting programme a while back on this place, which did include some location recordings. There is this snippet of vocalese - King Pleasure?

Even the bog standard HMVs over here on the High Streets have plenty of copies of this so evidence on the ground is that this is anything but ‘limited’.
Will probably dig the Chico Hamilton Mosaic set out a bit later on in response to that article in this month’s JJI. Interesting details of the ‘Strollers’ residency.
Try listening to it on a good old vinyl copy. My opinion went up too after that.
No problem. Those Audiowave XRCDs overlap on titles with the MMs and were no doubt from same source but seem to have been mastered by different guys. Both good though !
Out of curiosity just checked that Jazz Centre Society booklet from 1971 and the gig at Hampstead Country Club in London had Annette Peacock on vocals/electric piano, Daryll Runswick on bass and Robert Wyatt on drums. Tunes performed included ‘Mr Joy’ and ‘Touching’ and this was the first of a number of appearances for the JCS over the following years I believe. Review was by Richard Williams.
I figured with the rain teeming down it was now or never. Could take a while though as CD2 with ‘Mating Call’ is getting a re-spin and I might pull the Prestige vinyl out
So many star turns amongst the sidemen on these sessions. Mal Waldron and Art Taylor are standouts. I also noticed that Teddy Charles produced the ‘Dakar’ session - his hand in this is very noticeable listening to the music.
