Talking of Paul Bley I was scanning some old Jazz Centre Society flyers today and saw publicity for some performances over here in the early 1970s. Either ICA or Hampstead Country Club, will have to re-check.
If they put out all of those nice Japan-only SHM-CDs domestically, that would raise my interest. Especially if they priced them like the Atlantic 1000 Yen series.
We are never going to return to the halcyon days of the Conns and West Coast Classics, that is for sure.
I get the feeling that they are targetting an aspirational ‘gold card’ brigade. Same thing has happened over here at Ronnie Scotts Club. Could be worse though I guess i.e. 1970s.
Good way to start the Easter hols. Some serious listening today.
Particularly nice as Mosaic bundled in the extra ‘Jazz Hoot’ tracks recorded at Basin Street West.
In that case I’ll probably go for all of them. Thanks for the heads up.
I wonder if they are mastered by Tom Leader? He did very good things with the Graham Collier reissues.
It reminded me quite a bit of ‘Brazil’ - another film with Michael Palin in it. Both a comedy and totally chilling at the same time in terms of what they say about society.
I’ve got both on vinyl but I’ll likely also go for this CD issue as their masterings are usually so good. Both albums worth getting and I agree that ‘Autumn’ particularly good.
Didn’t realise they had put out the ‘Tears of Joy’ and ‘Filmore’ - these were also issued on CD in the USA (Wounded Bird).
Yep, a while since I last played this one and it is is stunningly good. Like all of the series, in great sound too.
I got to see Jimmy Cleveland play on one occasion, nearly 20 years ago now though.
