  1. Thad & Mel Solid State Mosaic, CD5 - 'Consummation'. Sounds pretty damn great !
  2. CDs are the new vinyl !
  3. I've got one ordered/pending shipment (hopefully).
  4. My latest order is awaiting that one coming back in.
  5. Nope - Turner Sims (all being well).
  6. That film has had very mixed reviews over here. Shame, otherwise I would have checked it out. The title makes me chuckle as it conjours an image of Gollum living in Limehouse..
  7. 'Whoa' indeed !
  8. I don't think I have this material so - I'm in.
  9. Yazz Ahmed 'La Saboteuse' (Naim)
  10. The reason I compared them was the play-like use of single stage sets with the drama interspersed with musical interludes. Nothing related to any cultural similarities.
  11. I have bound annual volumes of most of the 1960s Jazz Monthly mags. They are an invaluable resource - and still a good read.
  12. Jazz Bakery - now that brings back memories. Helms Avenue, Culver City - operated by vocalist Ruth Price in its original location/version. Saw some good stuff there - Cedar Walton, Jackie McLean, Cecil Taylor !
  13. Humphrey Lyttleton's band with Kathy Stobart, Bruce Turner and Mike Pyne was up there in this early cluster too. The Herman gig (Colston Hall, Bristol) was interesting. I got to go backstage and saw Woody very close up. Amazed just how small he was in person !
  14. Mingus is under-used, to say the least - only really features in that early scene with Attenborough and Brubeck, the latter getting a bit more of a feature. Incidentally, isn't that 'Brazilian' at the party who was asked to do the congas a boot-blacked Barry Morgan? Reminded me a bit of the movie of 'The Connection' with its ongoing mix of drama and jazz.
  15. 'All Night Long' showing on UK TV tonight. First time I've seen it. Not exactly a classic movie-wise but well worth it for shots of Mingus and Brubeck with John Dankworth, Tubby Hayes, Johnny Scott, Alan Ganley et al. Nice period feel to the film too.
  16. Earl May on bass perhaps? Remember seeing John Lee with McCoy in the early 1980s too. The band with John Blake and Joe Ford.
  17. I have quite a few LPs with Charles Fox's CF initials in the back in biro. Early 1960s review copies for Gramophone Magazine. Always interesting to check out the corresponding reviews in their archive ( alas - access to it is now paywalled).
  18. Hoping to see Mr Bennink in a month or so at a forthcoming ICP UK gig.
  19. Thanks Dave. Grrrrr..... I don't want to see that wall display.
  20. Thanks Bill, Dan, Marcel and Guy. Milt Jackson plus flutes on deck, to be followed by some Thad & Mel.
  21. Thanks John and all. I have the day off to get some serious listening in so it should be good.
