  1. RIP Walter Becker
  2. Blue Parrot label - still have a copy of that one.
  3. Sad news, may he RIP. Always been a fan, will spin a Dan CD or two this afternoon.
  4. Just picked up a new copy of the book for £3. Interesting read !
  5. Same here. Always thought of him as a young whippersnapper alongside people like John Abercrombie when I ws just getting into jazz.
  6. Isn't it some sort of styrofoam? Probably sounds fine on Fred Flintstone's deck..
  7. Same here. Mine is a King pressing, bought from the wonderful Mr Tanno. I think I once saw an extortionate copy of the original at a (now gone) London store and yes, it was beaten up and one of the labels was missing. Not sure if the booklet was there.
  8. Caught it on Netflix. No massive revelations to be honest but really enjoyed it. Thoughful contributions from Maupin, Ridley, Harper, Shorter etc. Amazing how clearly Helen Morgan's character came across with just that single interview tape and all in all, extremely atmospheric. As previously mentioned, the beautifully rendered Francis Wolff photos were the star of the film.
  9. From the Mosaic Beehive box.
  10. He was on the TV last night, featured in a Mingus tribute ! Fitted the Eric Dolphy role with aplomb.
  11. I 'waited' about 15 years before picking up that CD (although did have the session in the Mosaic LP set).
  12. I don't think it was anything official but he's shown in the film seated in the invited audience in the HGBS studio and wrote lots of sleeve notes for them over the years.
  13. Thanks for that, will get hold of it then.
  14. I have the LP .... but I'd like to hear that CD !
  15. Whenever I think of John Abercrombie I reminded of this LP, which was one of the first jazz LPs I ever saw in the racks and heard bits of on the radio.
  16. Sad news. I was just reading some of the notes he did for the Rearward/Schema CBBB reissues - a good read, as per usual. Enjoyed the Kenny Clarke book and also his earlier contributions to Jazz Journal over the years. RIP. He's also interviewed on that 'Jazzin The Black Forest' DVD, as something of an authority on MPS.
  17. I knew he hadn't been well but this news comes as a big shock. RIP and so sorry to hear this. Always enjoyed his thoughtful, empathic playing. I think the last time I caught him must have been with Mark Feldman, some years ago now.
  18. Must have been the first gig he did with the CBBB. You would never guess from the recording, amazing player.
  19. The Rearward/Schema reissue of this one is definitive. Fantastic sound job. Incidentally, they flew Wolfgang Hirschmann out to record it and provided the great Adrian Kerridge of Lansdowne fame as his assistant ! Talk about A-Team..
  20. So sorry to hear this. She had plenty of friends on this board. RIP.
  21. Rat Patrol Roland Rat Spit The Dog
