  1. Remember when this one was last broadcast. Hope they find some more in the archive..
  2. Two outstanding items on BBC last week - the documentary about The Somme and the New Zealand natural history series starter.
  3. Jaki Byard 'Freedom Together !' (SABA, stereo) CD player is out of action due to failed laser mech. so there will be lots more vinyl over the next few weeks. and .
  4. Gary Bartz 'Another Earth' (Milestone gatefold blue label, stereo)
  5. I've got a copy of that Alan Haven LP recorded at Annie Ross's club with Tony Crombie on drums somewhere in the shelves. His obituary was in JJI a few months ago and he was indeed married initially to Miss World 1965. Spinning Stanley Turrentine 'Look Out !' (BN 47W63rd DG mono. ear)
  6. Mistress Strumpet Miss Whiplash Norma Lamont
  7. Yep, the Quinichette was one of the later ones I picked up, along with the Collectors Disk (which only cost a few bucks).
  8. Thanks for that Flurin - I guess I need to look out for the Teagarden and Ray Brown then. I like that Brown/Jackson twofer so if that is the case it sounds essential. Took me 15 years to get to this stage so if it takes another 10 years or so to find these in a bargain bin I won't fret..
  9. I think the skiffle here was a sort of 'do your own thing' thing. Soap box and string to make a bass = low cost of entry and I guess when it started the WW2 rationing was only just being withdrawn. A bit of a craze - sort of the 'Pokemon Go' of its day. Now spinning - Miles Davis 'Agharta' (UK CBS 2LP). Again, my old copy benefitting from a cleaning machine brush up..
  10. Very sad to hear this. My favourite album that he was on is 'Doin' The Thang!' by Ronnie Matthews on Prestige. I'll give that a spin today. RIP. If I remember correctly he was here in the UK just a couple of years ago playing with the Sun Ra Arkestra at Glastonbury - it was on TV.
  11. Miles 'Bitches Brew' (UK CBS 2LP). My 40 year old copy still sounding immaculate !
  12. Even though I've probably got most of this on the vinyl 2LPs I am sure that Mosaic will do such a great job that it will be indispensable. This will go on the 'to do' list after the Beehive and Dial sets !
  13. Sounds nice - I wonder if that Teddy Reig essay was the one that was in the Basie Roulette sets?
  14. Looks like I am missing: Dinah Washington 'The Best in Blues' Jack Teagarden 'Think Well of Me' Louie Bellson 'Skin Deep' Ray Brown 'Bass Hit' Are any of those 'must haves'?
  15. Amazing to hear that Nanaimo even has a vinyl shop ! That ebay quote of the owner sounds familiar though - I can think of at least one coastal emporium round here whose shop stock is rubbish and who puts anything half decent on the bay.
  16. Just wading into this..
  17. Fats Navarro ! Coltrane/Wilbur Harden Donald Byrd 'Long Green'
  18. Interesting - a very naturally gifted musician. Particularly liked her flute work. One of few at Swanage who can work with equal comfort in both trad and modern marquees. Part of the sax lineup in Keith Nichols' Blue Devils playing 20s/30s stuff yesterday, then doing Gillespie numbers with ease this afternoon in her joint venture quintet.
  19. Tony Williams ('il a dix-sept ans') Gareth Williams Gareth Gates
  20. Highlight today - Gareth Williams and Trish Clowes' co-op group 'Glow Quartet' in the Methodist church venue. Lyrical, inventive and superb ! Very fine performance as well by Art Themen's group with Steve Fishwick sharing the front line. Gareth Williams was in that one too. Most versatile performer of the fest (and a standout) - Amy Roberts.
  21. Maybe they will resolve things with a new venue but I wouldn't bet money on it - that beachfront location was a major plus. Greg Abate is performing again this afternoon with Quartet. Missed the Barnes/Abate yesterday, it clashed with Tim Garland. Choices.. Maybe they will resolve things with a new venue but I wouldn't bet money on it - that beachfront location was a major plus. 22. The original issues on vinyl were for Atlas in Japan. I guess the rights must have always been vested with Art/Laurie and that Laurie did a deal for the box issue
