I'm fairly sure the BBC recorded that show at the Rainbow for TV which forms much of the material for 'Shabazz' - remember seeing a bit of it when it was broadcast and they've never repeated it. Another lost tape I guess.
That's a show that's definitely worth seeing. Some of the numbers they do are from the more obscure Blue Note albums e,g, The Freedom Rider. Wallen is quite an interesting player of late, definitely a hint of Dizzy Reece in his style. When I saw them they had Shane Forbes on drums and a different pianist to Julian Joseph (Andrew McCormack I think). Check out also Dennis Rollins' Power trio with Ross Stanley on organ. Recommended !
Val Doonican - "Hello There"
Did not know about that book, thanks for pointing it out! No probs, the book is strongly recommended. Might be the Marty Feldman show I caught but not sure, so long ago now. In any event, they left a strong impression !
Saw that on TV when it was broadcast - on one of those BBC Arts shows I think. The short-lived 'Big GRunt' band - bizarre ! They used to crop up quite a lot on TV a lot back in the day. Check out the 'Ginger geezer' book for a very interesting account of the Bonzos and Vivian Stanshall's life. He had his demons with the drink, lived for a period living in a harbour-side dillapidated tug-boat in Bristol, I recall. Definitely an original. The Beeb was more interesting in those days..
is this good? What's it like? It's a great one. One of my favourites from Big John. Very good session put out by Alvin Queen - and Moncur features strongly.

Wonder if it's some additional live material? Count me in as a Miles fan of those years - fond memories of catching the concerts during that period and as Ubu says, the likes of 'Tutu' and 'Amandla' are not to be sniffed at. I will be interested in getting hold of this one.
