  1. I'm fairly sure the BBC recorded that show at the Rainbow for TV which forms much of the material for 'Shabazz' - remember seeing a bit of it when it was broadcast and they've never repeated it. Another lost tape I guess.
  2. That's a show that's definitely worth seeing. Some of the numbers they do are from the more obscure Blue Note albums e,g, The Freedom Rider. Wallen is quite an interesting player of late, definitely a hint of Dizzy Reece in his style. When I saw them they had Shane Forbes on drums and a different pianist to Julian Joseph (Andrew McCormack I think). Check out also Dennis Rollins' Power trio with Ross Stanley on organ. Recommended !
  3. Val Doonican - "Hello There" Did not know about that book, thanks for pointing it out! No probs, the book is strongly recommended. Might be the Marty Feldman show I caught but not sure, so long ago now. In any event, they left a strong impression !
  4. Saw that on TV when it was broadcast - on one of those BBC Arts shows I think. The short-lived 'Big GRunt' band - bizarre ! They used to crop up quite a lot on TV a lot back in the day. Check out the 'Ginger geezer' book for a very interesting account of the Bonzos and Vivian Stanshall's life. He had his demons with the drink, lived for a period living in a harbour-side dillapidated tug-boat in Bristol, I recall. Definitely an original. The Beeb was more interesting in those days..
  5. is this good? What's it like? It's a great one. One of my favourites from Big John. Very good session put out by Alvin Queen - and Moncur features strongly. Tony Coe 'Tony's Basement' (UK Columbia Lansdowne Series, stereo) Chitinous Ensemble 'Chitinous' (Deram, stereo)
  6. Michael Garrick 'October Woman' (Argo, stereo)
  7. Big John Patton/Grachan Moncur III 'Soul Connection' (Nilva)
  8. Wonder if it's some additional live material? Count me in as a Miles fan of those years - fond memories of catching the concerts during that period and as Ubu says, the likes of 'Tutu' and 'Amandla' are not to be sniffed at. I will be interested in getting hold of this one.
  9. Same here. Cost me about £8 as well.
  10. Not to forget that Esquire did some of those early Prestiges as 10" pressings as well.
  11. Happy Birthday to Mr Sanders. Agree that he's always a great pleasure to see live (sadly, have not caught him for many years now).
  12. All The Best !
  13. Rockin' Robin Robin Boy Blunder
  14. 26 here. No bow ties or bl**dy 'Question Time' either !
  15. Ian Carr/Jeff Clyne 'Spingboard' (Polydor) Gordon Beck 'Gyroscope' (Morgan, stereo) Bob Downes 'Open Music' (Philips, stereo)
  16. Billy Bottle Mike Westbrook Kate Westbrook
  17. Fats Sadi 'Ensadinado' (Saba, stereo) Sounds magnificent after a bath in L'art du son !
  18. Laubrock, Rainey and Liam Noble worked well as a group when I saw them at Birmingham Conservatoire some years ago.
  19. Tony Williams Lifetime 'Ego' (UK Polydor)
  20. First clean with my new bottle of L'art du son. Immediate sonic benefits with 2 washes per side.
  21. Caught him at The Barbican in the Strata-East show a while back. He was predictably good !
  22. RIP
  23. Yeah, makes an interesting contrast after the McLean/Moncur. Wonder what became of Peter Shade?
  24. 6d worth of chips plus some 'scraps' !
  25. Don Rendell 'Space Walk' (UK Columbia, stereo)
