This thread brings back memories. I remember seeing Don Menza featured with - I'm pretty sure - Woody Herman back in the late 1970s. Ronnie Scott's. In fact he was one of the first tenor players I ever heard on record - on Buddy Rich 'Mercy Mercy Mercy' - Channel 1 Suite.

I saw Teddy live a few years before he passed, very rare club appearance in NYC. Predictably great. The one time I caught him on the West Coast he had his arm in a sling and couldn't play. Still fronted the band though !
Remember buying both volumes in hardback on the spot when I saw them many years ago in Toronto. Other than Ian Carr's fine work, there wasn't much published about Miles up to that point. Devoured both volumes in a weekend !
Yep, Borders was just opposite the site of the old Foyles and slightly up. Good for jazz books and periodicals. The one in Bournmouth was nice as well - sadly it went under around the same time.
