  1. Just trying to recall the lineup for the 'Hand in Hand' gig - Steve Nelson on vibes, Wallace Roney on trumpet. Don't think there was a sax on that gig and can't recall who was on bass and drums (might have been Lewis Nash on the latter). Part of a Western Canada/US tour. Fortunate to have seen a fair number of gigs with Mulgrew - as part of bands led by Woody Shaw, Tony Williams and Blakey - as well as with 'Wingspan'. He is truly missed !
  2. Fond memories of seeing his 'Hand In Hand' band in 1992. All of the Novus releases are worth picking up. Never thought of an Earl Hines connection but come to think of it, I sort of hear it !
  3. It's a very interesting programme. I think the elderly Dutch lady threw him out in the end.
  4. The Jodrell Bank documentary is on BBC4 tonight I think - presumably the BBC NW thing was a teaser.
  5. All the Tempos were lost a long time ago I think, presumably destroyed by Philips (Tony Hall has confirmed as much)
  6. We had a minute's silence in work today. My fourth of these within 2 weeks..
  7. Small comfort but at least more than a few of them will now be constantly chasing their own tails and getting paranoid over airborne noises. Fitting !
  8. That place and indeed the whole of the Fylde is renowned for its horizontal rain. Every time I'm in the area it has been that way !
  9. 'Sixth Sense' (along with 'Caramba') was the very first Lee Morgan album I ever bought - both picked up as Liberty cassette cutouts bought by mail order - a whole mountain of them must have been shipped from NY and dumped over in Liverpool docks. Since then, both have been major favourites of mine, having picked up the CD versions and good original LP copies. Both sessions have a fire to them that I find very appealing. 'Charisma' I find to be a bit patcher - still worth having though. I still have the cassettes too !
  10. Happy Birthday Eric - I am jealous re that Beehive Set..
  11. All the ones I have both look and sound great. I particularly like the attention to detail with the LP sleeve facsimiles. The Tubby Hayes Tempos are particularly good - considering they are needle drops.
  12. Very late in the day but finally picked this up at a nice price. Very impressed with these mono mixes.
  13. As long as it stays 'far North'..
  14. George Braith 'Extension' (BN NY USA, stereo)
  15. Still a very elusive CD so that Dusty Groove offering is a great deal, even though the back cover is missing. I wonder if Dutton Vocalion might do a 'Hum Dono' with the Taylors?
  16. Sawano did a great job on that one.
  17. Has he got a house in Manchester?
  18. I remember that one coming out as an issue here in the UK I think, around 1975. Came out on the DJM label as a 2LP low price set, I recall.
  19. Remember seeing/hearing him on a panel discussion at one of those LA Jazz Institute events - RIP.
  20. Happy Birthday !
