  2. Very sad to see that Jazzwise this month had several mentions of upcoming gigs for JT and also the feature on his recent duet album with Richard Fairhurst. The Turtle box set will be a 'must have', especially so with the booklet to document it all. I have two of them on vinyl, never picked up the FMRs.
  3. For a minute there, I thought you had posted 'Opportunity' original
  4. Oliver Nelson. That one has taken some flack but I love it ! Can I also suggest the Four Freshmen?
  5. Very interesting !
  6. Ab Baars isn't overlooked neither is Tobias Delius and Ronnie Scott IMHO Re: Scott. As a club owner I agree. As a saxophonist I strongly disagree with your statement, both now and whilst he was with us. I was thinking in terms of the general listening public, who totally failed to appreciate how good he was. Add Tommy Whittle and Harold Land as well.
  7. Ronnie Scott
  8. I think I've now got all of the Selects apart from the 'Boogie Woogie Piano' set and will no doubt pick that one up at some stage. Now spinning disk 1 of: Fantastic - hadn't heard the disk 1 material before.
  9. What great longevity ! He was getting towards pension age when I was just starting to get into jazz (and I remember hearing some of his arrangements back then). RIP.
  10. The Select series ruled/rules ! My Tolliver Big Band and Sam Rivers are in the mail..
  11. Someone on Doug Ramsey's site recommended Plastic Village. (Recommendation can be found here.) Thanks !
  12. Anyone know of a good supplier of these gatefold PVC CD sleeves in UK/Europe?

  16. John Taylor 'Decipher' (MPS/BASF)
  17. Misleaded by the name - but: Dexter Gordon on piano in Awakenings with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro ! Ronnie Scott was in the habit of announcing Joe Henderson as a forthcoming attraction at the club and then adding "Joe 'Mr Piano' Henderson, that is". I well remember him coming out with that one - and the hushed sound of awe and amazement around the club before the 'Mr Piano' bit was mentioned
  18. Mosaic Complete Commodore Vol 2 set, LP1... only 22 more to go. Will the stylus last before I finish the set? An awesome set..
  19. Should be good ! I guess there will be some duplication with material that is on the Complete Commodore sets..
  20. Totally agree - especially in combination with Billy Higgins. Too bad that he left us so young..
  21. and All the Best !
