    Goodbye Acker

' Blue Acker' always seems to be easy to find in 2nd hand vinyl shops for about £5 a pop. My favourite of his albums. Sad news. Always a great ambassador for Somerset and for British trad jazz in general. RIP.
  4. Even with a good copy of the vinyl I'll be springing for a CD copy of this. Great news !
  5. Hope all is well Brownie - very Happy Birthday to you !
  6. Hope it was a great one - Happy Birthday !

    Jack Bruce

The first one which comes immediately to mind is Mike Taylor 'Trio', where he shares acoustic bass duties with Ron Rubin. A brilliant album. New Jazz Orchestra 'Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe' also features Bruce. Very sorry to hear this news - RIP.
  8. Disk Union had the whole lot on display at 1500 yen a pop with a free BN t shirt if you bought 5 and somehow I passed !
  9. Sounds like he was a great guy. That place must have been a magnet right across the North of England.
  10. I find that whole idea oddly intriguing and tempting. I don't know why but maybe because it harks back to early childhood music/book packages, some great tunes and combuines that with a cottage-industry/craftsman, self production ethos.I'd love to hear and see one in the flesh Do you know this: Brilliant (though high production) set of completely varied Disney interpretations. Imagine the Disney songbook up to the late 60s played by the houseband on Pinocchio's Pleasure Island. A rather disturbing listen. No I don't but I'll look it up. There's the Sun Ra Disney on Leo Records too I remember seeing Ra and co singing 'Zipedee Do Da' about 20 years ago..
  11. Fantastic news - have been really looking forward to reading your book, Simon.
  12. Mike Myers Austin Powers Fat B@stard
  13. Got hold of a 'Boom Jackie Boom Chick' Japanese Fontana in good ol' Disk Union Shinjuku, just before heading out. Icing on the cake !
  14. Disk Union Shibuya had a copy of 'Company 4' (Incus) in stock yesterday, looked to be in good nick and reasonably priced for an Incus.
  15. Have a great birthday !!
  16. Thanks John - really appreciate yours and kinuta's great help this week ! I 'hit' the Shibuya Disk Union underground LP den tonight. Not bad but not up to Shinjuku standard. Having said that I did come out with a Joe Harriott 'Jazz For Moderns' on Gearbox Records for £7, which I have the feeling has sold out in the UK. They obviously don't like Joe Harriott in Tokyo. Result ! What a great deal ! Just awesome...
  17. three whole stories... Yeah - I have really only concentrated on Shinjuku but Shibuya and the other one were also great. Not too much to choose between the Shinjuku and Shibuya vinyl stores but the former has the edge I would say. 'Three whole stories' - that is true. LPs in Shinjuku on floor 3 and then next door the new CDs on the ground floor and then just above a couple of floors of second hand CDs. One floor with 'just' jazz piano. Unbelievable !
  18. PM sent to describe my thoughts and observations and the Harriott 'Movement'. Fantastic selection of original Blue Note and Prestige pressings of all vintages and some vey good deals available on King and Toshiba reissues, not surprisingly. Also a sprinkling of Mosaics (JohnJ got the best deal on the Pacific Jazz Trios Select).
  19. For anyone visiting I can guarantee that an outing to the Disk Union Shinjuku will be an experience and a half. Be prepared for eyes to jump out of sockets.........and cards no problem.
  20. Constable Gainsborough Tracey Emin....
  21. Ralph Peterson 'Presenting The Fo' tet' on Blue Note?
  22. For the cheapskates amongst us, Amazon UK currently have this available in Kindle format for £9.99. Just pounced on it (finally)...
  23. Didn't Freddie Waits play drums on some of the 60s Motown hits? Some of those tracks with Solomon and Wilkerson are in the Mosaic box, I think.
  24. Same here.
