  1. Was there a good selection of these Atlantics there? I might try to make a special trip if so. Not as great as last time. First time I noticed these in the store they had a whole display shelf featuring them. This week there was no special display, just the individual titles (and not all of them) on the usual racks. Noticed that they had jacked up the prices on RVG Blue Notes as well (£3 to £8 !)
  2. Those albums for Albert Marx's Discovery/Trend labels shouldn't be forgotten about either - 'Lomelin', 'Jenna' and 'Calafia'. In terms of style, they bridge the gap between the 60s PJ stuff and the more recent releases. Many of the original lineup were still on-board at that stage too in the 'Orchestra of the 80s' (and the subsequent '90s' one, which I caught live). That 90s band opened up with 'Viva Tirado' - unforgettable impact.
  3. 'Theme For Monterey' would be one..
  4. I was in Fopp Cambridge Circus yesterday and noticed the Chris Connor titles in there and passed on them. Sounds like I might have done the right thing.
  5. This was the one that had a lecture by the author at the Cheltenham Fest (he also did the Verve Records tome). It's certainly on my wants list when it comes out (November? ready for Xmas Blue Note punter rush no doubt). Suspect that Ashley Kahn's project might have been put on the back burner (or cancelled) when this one was announced.
  6. The quality of his late recordings was extraordinary, considering his age. Agree that they are every bit as good as the PJ material on the Mosaic set.
  7. Vinyl will still be in operation when all the IPods are landfill... I own an IPod by the way..
  8. Gerald Wilson CD2 playing today..
  9. Hear, hear !
  10. 'Last of the Lions' indeed. Feels like the end of an era.
  11. RIP Gerald - I'm reaching for the box this morning. What sad news to start the day. However, I'm grateful that I managed to see him a couple of times. One time in LA with his orchestra (stupendous) and more recently when he did that London concert in his ripe old age. His enthusiasm and vitality at that gig were incredible.
  12. The Master The Assistant K-9
  13. Thanks - Riley, SOS and Zeitlin was spun so some good stuff.
  14. A ridiculously under-rated session IMO. Every reviewer/critic seems to slag if off !
  15. No Fopps even in English Wales. Better look in Spillers next trip to Cardiff. I looked on Amazon UK and was surprised at how expensive it all is. MG Nearest would be the one in Bristol for you, MG. They are located up by the University.
  16. Hmmmm.........
  17. £5 each in Fopp !
  18. Aren't quite a few of them now out in the Japanese 24-bit 1000 Yen series?
  19. Wow ! There are some mythical stories out there of people finding copies of this in car boot sales and charity shops. Hard to believe with only 99 copies. I suspect that the Sawano sounds better than the real thing. Really glad to have picked up the CD, was pretty amazed to see it still for sale.
  20. Looking forward to it - Tokyo is going to be a blast. Thanks !
