  1. Andrew Cyrille definitely should be recognised ! How about Louis Hayes too.

  4. 60 here at the moment - and raining! Another mud-bath at Glastonbury... YES !
  5. Yeah, I remember picking up the Plugged Nickel set in Canada at A&B Sound during a 20% off sale and even then it was over $100. Worth every cent of course - to me it was like discovering the Rosetta Stone of Miles Davis, at the time.
  6. Wow, never seen or heard of that! Clifford - It's another obscure Lansdowne series LP recorded for Denis Preston and a good one. The whole of the first side is a sound-track for a thriller novel that was in his head but never published. Ratip also did a trio album for UK Columbia a few years earlier than this one - 'Introducing Arman Ratip'. He lives in Cyprus these days I think. Nope !
  7. That one (like all of the Sawanos - including the ones by Tubby Hayes) sounds great. The best way to hear those Tempos that is out there ! I agree on that and a much more cheaper way to buy these albums. The original Tempos sound better - but we don't want to go there. The Sawanos are more than good enough !
  8. Arman Ratip 'The Spy From Istanbul' (Regal Zonophone) Free session from 1973 by the Turkish pianist, with Marc Charig and Harry Miller.
  9. That one (like all of the Sawanos - including the ones by Tubby Hayes) sounds great. The best way to hear those Tempos that is out there !
  10. Great to hear that, Bill ! I still have mine. Some original Impulse albums sound far better in their early mono form. I have quite a few of those - the 'Love Supreme' in the HMV imprint is a particular favourite.
  11. Best pressing I ever heard of 'East Broadway Rundown' was a mono on HMV.
  12. I don't know about putting it in the freezer ( ) but with the Linn Sondek mat, polarity (i.e. the correct way up) is an issue and makes a significant audible difference ! I've never bothered with any of these 'fancy' mats like the Ringmat.
  13. Description of the book at that link is a bit odd: "Jackie McLean (1931-2006) was one of the finest alto players and a legend of jazz. This book looks at the man and his work, his influences, and why his records have such enduring value." Same author (Derek Amsell) for the Northway bios of McLean and Mobley.
  14. And who would have thought that the guy carting the bass on the rail track would turn into Stevie Wonder's production sidekick
