Verve Elite Edition....it aint. Still, I guess we should be grateful.
  3. Lovely! I don't have many of your vinyls, Brownie, but that's one of my treasures. Mine too (one of the best bands I ever saw at Ronnie Scotts, without a doubt. In fact one of the best bands I saw ever !) Mike Westbrook 'Solid Gold Cadillac' (UK RCA Victor) Today's nice find.
  4. Damn - that's a shame. A project/talent deserving of much greater support. Instead, the masses all stay in and watch 'Strictly' etc.
  5. John - That's great ! My inbox was full so I've cleared some space - should be OK now. From memory, that concert was a great evening. It was nice and warm evening, perfect Bath Summer weather in what was an outstanding Festival year. The Brass Fantasy did a musical procession through the centre of the audience and being right next to the walkway I caught them at very close quarters. Sadly, some of these great musicians are no longer with us - I recall that Philip Wilson was on drums. The lineup also included John Clark and Frank Lacy (fortunately very much with us). 'Loose Tubes' were also televised by the BBC for that Festival. I was there at that one too. Sorry to de-rail the Hank thread !
  6. Certainly no quibbles with the gems that were selected !
  7. Mike Gibbs 'Just Ahead' (Polydor 2LP). With publicity photo and flyer from 1972
  8. Bob, I think I copied my VHS recording of Brass Fantasy onto dvd. If I can find it I'll give it a play. That would be fantastic, John. Hope you find it ! It was a great evening - at Green Park Station (open air venue). I see that the BFI also have it listed. BFI Link
  9. I'll bet that King's Cross Station and the recent changes in and around it would have comes as a shock, Brownie. Sadly, the immediate area has been in a limbo-land for some years, with threats of re-development and stays of execution. That seems to have affected the 'old' Mole building. Traffic on that road is still as crazy as it ever was though.. Hope your day in London was a good one !

  12. Great photos Guy ! These are genuinely priceless. Any more nuggets down there in your cellar?
  13. The Charles Tolliver set is great - recommended ! Looks like the Helen Merrill single has been and gone..
  14. Agreed, but....................... But nothing. The sound is inferior to what we could get. The art is ugly. I steer clear. Same here !
  15. Hope it was a good one !
  16. Hilarious ! I had an incident with some similarities to this but it was at the much later 'Harold Moore's' version of Mole on a Saturday afternoon not too long before it shut up shop (I was 'fiddling at waist height' in the Collector Vinyl racks ). A bunch of loud and 'liquid refreshed' vintage Soho-type characters came in to the store, pretty well took over the place and provided a commentary on life, the Universe and everything. Very entertaining it was - and knowledgable. A year or so later what looked like the guy who was the main font of knowledge popped up on a BBC4 documentary about old jazz clubs and the debauchery that went on in them. From the BBC film, I think this guy turned out to be the head bouncer for one of those places ('The Flamingo'?) Incidentally, as an aside - that photo I refer to shows an 'Art Ensemble' poster attached to one of the racks. I wonder if it is one of Chuck's?

  18. Apart from their Annual Xmas/New Year Sale.. I remember quite a bit of jostling to get through the front door on the first day of that and a few stiff upper lips quivering (amazing how there were always so many bearded portly guys of a certain age amongst the clientele). A bit like the "Harrods Sale" of jazz !
  19. Maynard Ferguson 'Alive And Well In London' (UK CBS, stereo)
  20. Britain's Jerry Sandusky? The Independent: Jimmy Savile scandal Although he was always sort of odd/eccentric - and there had always been the odd rumour flying around - those of us of a certain age are still pretty damned speechless with what is coming out on this story. Massive.
  21. In my case it was 1989 - and the catalyst was emigration to North America and cheaper CD prices in the shops. My first player was a Nackamichi. Some of the early Blue Note titles then for sale were (to me) astonishing - titles such as Wayne Shorter 'Night Dreamer', Andrew Hill 'Black Fire' and Hank Mobley 'The Turnaround', which I don't think I'd even seen before on any form of vinyl. They could also be picked up for around $10-11. The main problem was getting them out of the damn longbox that they came with !
  22. Lucky man ! They were playing locally to me last week but unfortunately I missed it. Isn't that Swananage Tent No. 2?
  23. Wasn't 2005 when the 'Harold Moore's Records' upstairs version of it on Marlborough St closed down? Still - even that seems an eternity now. I'm starting to get my head around the perspective of that photo. Trouble is, I used to spend most time at the far end of that photo, where the Deletions rack was I think (being a pauper student and it being the Winter Of Discontent and all that..)
  24. Strange thing is - I don't remember the shop internals looking like the photo on the top LHS. That must have been after they 'switched' the entrance of the original place to the Pentonville Road end. Much more familiar with the original 70s arrangement - plus the relocated shop across the road.
