  1. Some of these daft prices make things like the Rendell-Carr Columbias look like a bargain !
  2. Yeah, that would have been a good deal. Next time I was back (having re-considered this one) it had, of course, gone. Had hesitated initially as I had no idea whether or not the LP was any good. Should have reminded self just how good Sulieman was with the CCBB ! By way of excuse - that particular shop at the time (Intoxica) had rare original Blue Notes like Lee Morgan 'The Cooker' and one of those Donald Byrd Transitions (sans labels ) so it's not as if there was any shortage of attractions ! I believe they are just closing down now though - which doesn't bode well for London. http://www.herblester.com/blogs/journal/6128134-lament-for-intoxica
  3. Mick McManus Declan McManus Elvis Costello
  4. Remember seeing an original LP copy of this signed by Sulieman in a London shop some years ago for about £50. Should have bought it !
  5. I've still got that particular issue of the mag and remember seeing the Horo advert and wondering who would be crazy enough to order the lot. I guess whoever did was now glad that they did !
  6. Is that price to buy the company?
  7. Michael Gove Thatcher Milk-Snatcher Rhodes Boyson Sorry Bill - I pressed the 'Report' button accidentally.
  8. I also thought this was a thread by a Realtor pushing condos..
  9. Sorry to hear this - RIP.
  10. Still awaiting Royal Mail for that one. Hopefully it will arrive in 1 piece..
  11. Nice one Jazzbo - I'm still searching for that one after nearly 40 years of seeking it out !
  12. Spoilt SOBs who know the price of everything and the value of nothing ! ( gets flamed..) Sounds like a great afternoon. I wanted to see the Michael Garrick and Joe Harriott tributes on Saturday but sadly, couldn't make it in to London.
  13. Calgary 45 points for me ! (This is the first year I have had chance to make a half-decent prediction.. )
  14. Mrs Tit-mouse Fred Titmus Abi Titmus
  15. The Pizza Express' outlet where they were recorded would be the one in Greek Street, Soho, where there is a basement jazz club. Very good it is too ! Original owner Peter Boizot was a big fan of jazz - and opened the club back in the 1970s. In the 'earlier' days it featured mainstream groups such as Scott Hamilton, Ruby Braff, Al Cohn etc. Last gig I caught there (some years ago) was by Kenny Garrett. This one (issued by the chaps at Mole Jazz) was recorded at Pizza Express: There's still good jazz featured there too. Charles McPherson was featured last week, I believe.
  16. Second that. He has brought a lot of pleasure to people via his recordings.
  17. David Redfern from the Ronnie Scotts engagement? (the one where they wiped over the TV recording). The club still has (or at least it did have last time I was there some years ago) Redfern originals of Miles framed on the walls.
  18. Clarke/Boland comes as near as dammit for me. A dream band, for sure..
  19. No, I haven't any records with him as leader - have him on some Lester Young sides - but I did see him play solo piano in a Manchester pub on a tour arranged in the 70s by British record producer Tony Williams. Didn't Spotlite put out an Albany LP at the time? In fact, I think I've got it buried away in one of the racks..
  20. Sorry to hear that, Porcy. Hang on in there and spin the vinyl !
  21. Woger Bwian Biggus
  22. Frank Strozier 'Remember Me' (Steeplechase)
  23. That was a great series - and I agree that the selection is pretty damn good. I have two other favourites from this series - the Charles Mingus and the Freddie Hubbard,
