  1. Each of the shops I visited in London on Monday already had this in stock (Ray's Jazz etc.)
  2. Lee Morgan 'Sonic Boom' (King)
  3. Kai JJ Dick Katz
  4. Bob The Builder Mr Fix It Sir Jimmy Saville
  5. Fabulous - thanks for this.
  6. hint - think pothead pixies Is that a Gong reference? indeed! that's Gilli Smith (Shakti Yoni) Did we ever determine who this is? Nope - and here's another couple of clues. He and his co-leader had their first hits in the 60s (when they were a bit more 'psychadelic') and have been charting pretty well every decade since with their 2 or 3 chord ditties. looks like Rick Parfitt from Status Quo Correct !
  7. Very sorry to hear this - RIP.
  8. Doug Pirhana Dinsdale Pirhana Inspector Harry 'Snapper' Organs
  9. Sounds like the old Tower, Picadilly Circus (the Jazz section was 1 floor up, over the 'transparent walkway'). RIP
  10. and Sun Ra/Walt Dickerson ('Impressions Of A Patch Of Blue')
  11. That would either be Tower or HMV. Yes, they were around the £20 mark (at a time that they were about $15-16 in the US )
  12. Long Tall Dexter Long Tall Sally Aunt Sally
  13. 'John LaPorta Quintet' (Debut limited facsimile reissue, mono)
  14. Did we ever determine who this is? Nope - and here's another couple of clues. He and his co-leader had their first hits in the 60s (when they were a bit more 'psychadelic') and have been charting pretty well every decade since with their 2 or 3 chord ditties.
  15. It's now melted - blimey, that was quick !
  16. Hale Berry Hale Bop Professor Bop
  17. Snowfall out here yesterday afternoon. Damn freezing too . Looks like it's warming up a bit and starting to thaw out this morning though. I have to head out there tomorrow. Hope the trains are running otherwise I'm scuppered !
  18. Sounds like the copy of 'Two Trumpets' I picked up on one occasion. A bit beat up - but at £2 for the Bergenfield I wasn't complaining.
  19. That 'Golden Age' was yet another thing that went up in smoke around the time of 9/11, Vibes.
  20. Hector Huck Hound Gnasher
  21. Wasn't the 'Quintessence' session on the Quincy Jones previously issued on CD domestically? A Yusef Lateef Impulse box would be an absolute killer of a set. Top of my list !
  22. Yes Big Al, those were the days when even the most lowly Borders and Barnes & Nobles had a nice set of Verve Elites, Blue Note Conns and West Coast Classics. A golden age, for sure !
  23. Jack Straw Jack Spratt Jack The Treacle Eater
  24. Recommendation from me for the Oliver Nelson set. I particularly like the 'Kennedy Tribute' and the Jazzhattan Suite (hope that's what it's called, can't be bothered to open the box ). The Buddy Rich is good too so I'd go for both of them !
  25. Yes, they were a bit of rarity in the UK - Tower UK was probably the best UK source of them - but as you say they were very expensive. Quite a few I ended up getting from Tower in the US (nothing like going to the 'horses mouth') e.g the Konitz Motion. A few, like the Lalo Schifrin and Alan Shorter, required a major internet trawl to get hold of. It eluded me too - but rest assured I won't bid.
