  1. Clark Terry Plus International Festival Big Band 'At The Montreux Jazz Festival' (UK Polydor, stereo). 1969 recording, dodn't think this has ever been reissued on CD.
  2. Out Of The Blue 'Inside Track' (Blue Note DMM). Not bad for £3 !
  3. The copy I have is marked 'Reprinted 1985' with the title as you describe and published by Faber. I think I bought it within the last 10 years though - the copy I used to consult was a public library copy. At a time when you could still access things like this, the Ian Carr 'Music Outside' and Dick Heckstall-Smith etc. biographies on the public purse !
  4. Amazing to think that I used this book to judge future Coltrane and Dolphy purchases back in the day. If he hated it, I bought it ! Still a hugely entertaining read - and nice that he references many very obscure UK releases in the reviews.
  5. A couple of new acquisitions: Gerald Wilson Orchestra 'Live and Swinging' (Pacific Jazz, stereo). Canadian pressing Billy Bauer 'Plectrist' (Japanese Verve, mono)
  6. 'Dirty Dozens?' Nice finds, sounds like fun !

Probably 'Wahoo' in terms of jazz blowing content but I also really like the two BN big band albums and also 'The Right Touch', 'The Phantom' and 'Sweet Honey Bee' are great too. Also really like the material collated on the Mosaic Select with Anddy Bey, Airto and Flora Purim, much of which was fairly obscure.
  8. Wasn't he a vicar? - so sermon style came naturally I guess. To the list of all time greats I would like to add Ian Carr's 'Music Outside' (Northway) - still the best overview of UK Contemprary jazz of the 70s. Carr's biographies of Miles and Keith Jarrett were pretty damn good too..
  9. Totally agree, Larry. That book (the original silver paperback) is a gem and still a highly educational read for me. Very frustrating when it came out though (76?) as many of the LPs listed were OOP here or had never even been issued here in the first place. I have yet to be disappointed with a title that appeared in that volume.
  10. The 'Midnight Slows' LPs were all over the London LP shops in the 1970s. I often wondered what the music was like in them - but that was not their primary appeal.
  11. Acker Bilk/Stan Tracey Strings 'Horn of Plenty' on UK Columbia LP for £1 ! The first 'Out Of The Blue' group LP on Blue Note for £2 !
  12. That one could pass as a great Cedar Walton album just as much as a great Ray Brown album. Nice !
  13. Lady Gaga Shorty Rogers' African Lobster Buster Crabb
  14. Best Wishes for a good day !

  17. What a great lineup ! Now why haven't I seen that one before?
  18. Very true ! Gerald W. has an infectious enthusiasm for life so no surprise that he is still coming up with the goods !
  19. I remember one sizeable Tower Records store in San Diego which I used to visit whenever I had business trips there. It was on a busy road to the North of the centre, if I remember correctly (not sure about the Sports Arena, don't remember seeing that). I'm sure I picked up a bundle of Conns and one of the Miles Davis boxes at that place. Not as big a selection as Tower Sunset Boulevard but still pretty good !
  20. Blimey !
  21. Manuel Geoff Love Courtney Love
  22. Victor Feldman Victor Sylvester Victor Kiam
  23. Sad to hear this - RIP. I am a big fan of the films put out by Rhapsody Films. He did a major service to jazz with that !
