  1. Happy Birthday from me too !
  2. Shank/Cooper Select CD2. Rustic hop !
  3. Damn - hope that isn't the case..
  4. Rendell/Carr Quintet 'Change Is' (UK Columbia Lansdowne series, stereo) Dizzy Reece 'Progress Report' (Japanese Sawano/Tempo, mono). Very nice ! A rare outing for Brit guitarist Dave Goldberg and predictably good Ronnie Scott tenor.
  5. Dick Bock Dean Benedetti Teo Macero
  6. TS Monk Keith Joseph Normo Tebbitt
  7. Armand Hammer (samwich ) Christopher Lee Ingrid Pitt
  8. Bill & Ben the Flower-Pot Men Little Weed Looby Loo

  10. Gordon Brown Knees Up Mother Brown Capability Brown
  11. Really? All previous visits to that store and Aldi have resulted in me coming out with absolutely nothing worth buying. I'll take a look..
  12. I have a NY USA DG one side with ear original version, also a Japanese King and a UK late-1970s (Transatlantic/UA?) blue label pressing. My thoughts are that the original comes out best (full bodied, if that makes sense) but will have to check that old UK pressing. I don't think that one had 'Van Gelder' in the runout though.
  13. Great !
  14. Modern Jazz Quartet 'The Comedy' (Atlantic blue/green, stereo)
  15. This early one by Gordon Beck on the Major/Minor label is hard to beat -
  16. Another nice find - Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis/Red Garland Trio 'Moodsville Vol 1' (UK Moodsville Interdisk, mono)
  17. Tony The Tiger PG Tips Chimp Honey Monster
  18. Ronnie Scott 'Scott At Ronnie's' (UK RCA, stereo). Good find at £4 ! Also followed by a cracking copy of Chet Baker Quintet 'Smokin'' (SABA, stereo). Also £4 ! Updated to say that the sound on the Saba LP is, typically, excellent.
  19. Stanley Turrentine 'The Look Of Love' (BN Liberty blue/white, stereo)
  20. Very true. They had a Starbucks in most of the stores (I used to call in at the Bournmouth branch) and it was one of the few outlets where you could actually pick up 'Jazz Journal' and 'Jazz Review'. Very good arts magazine stock - alas no more.
  21. Roger Federer King Ubu William Tell
  22. They've all closed down all their UK shops in the last few weeks (which had been sold off in a 'management buyout' a few years ago - usually a sign of impending doom). Of all things I've seen in the shops of late, this (together with all Woolworth's stores going bust) has brought home just how bad this recession has been. Stock had already been running low for several years. Towards the end, all the stores I went in had nothing of interest other than some music magazines.
  23. Have a great birthday !
  24. I think I have a couple of LPs with Dobells 45/- stickers on their top RH corners £10-ish this decade probably works out to 1/2d back in the old days !
