  1. Vinyltastic happy birthday !
  2. John/Alice Coltrane 'Cosmic Music' (Coltrane Records Corporation). Annual 'airing'.
  3. I can only hope that we get a couple of dozen more series of "Jazz Icons" DVDs loaded with stuff from the INA vaults, in nice picture quality and quality booklets. Bring it on !
  4. They are from Nica's book... Three Wishes Essential purchase !
  5. First records weren't bought in Leeds though - it was at Woods in Bradford (remember that place? Woods that is) Very fine shop, I think it's still going but more of a music shop I think these days.
  6. Big Al's favourite ! A belated Very Happy Birthday !
  7. Damn - I was just down the road (although in a nappy ) . No excuse, I know. I think the Ammons LPs did appear on Esquire (or possibly Stateside) - for sure the Coltrane jam sessions were issued by them. Pretty rare LPs - only in the few hundreds in many cases. Oh to have a time machine and a Leeds Public Library ticket !
  8. Mellophonium Madness Dick Mellodian Melody Garnot
  9. I would also recommend that Don Ellis DVD 'Electric Heart', if they have it. Pat Martino's 'Unplugged' is worth seeing too - although that one is a sort of medical documentary with added jazz.
  10. Noted - don't think I've ever seen an Esquire of that one. Wonder what the cover art was like?
  11. Mere juveniles
  12. Ted Turner Jane Fonda Barbarella
  13. Bill - try the Clarke/Boland Big Band "Live In Prague", if they have it available. It's excellent.
  14. 'Mr Blues Pour Flirter' period?
  15. Mobley spent time with (and I believe shared an apartment with) Philly Joe Jones in France. He also had an extended stay in London - maybe late 60's? I'm betting somewhere in the broadcast vaults of France and England there is footage of Mobley. Just look at all of the videos coming out of Europe - youtube, for example. I'm not a betting girl, but I'd bet there is Mobley footage; I just hope I get to see it in my lifetime! Been hoping to see some Mobley come out from the INA vaults but none has surfaced yet and doubt there is any. Unfortunately, Mobley was a low profile musician when he stayed in France. No Sonny Criss video yet either, even he was a very recognised musician when he was here. But some should surface some day. Know Criss was on a couple of TV shows. Much more likely that there's French footage of Mobley than UK. I don't recall any mention of the BBC recording him and even if it had the chances are any footage would have been wiped in the great early 70s BBC tape purge. He certainly played Ronnie Scotts at least once and I think BillF said he saw him play a gig in Manchester. If film appears I'll eat my hat ! Editted to say - great finds, guy ! This INA site is the video jazz motherlode.
  16. Bill Russo/London Jazz Orchestra - 'In London' (UK Columbia, mono)
  17. A very positive development - great news.
  18. Trabant crossed with a VW camper van?
  19. Good move - lots of reverb !
  20. This is cool -
  21. Burger King Chief Justice Warren Burger Birger Sandzen Beavis of Burger-World Michael Eavis Joseph of Aramathea
  22. 'Mingus Moves' is very under-rated, IMO. I like the 'Pre-Bird' too..
  23. Ditto - CD1. The session with the 3 valve trombones.
  24. I think my junior high school around that time (in deepest Yorkshire) had one powering big Wharfedale speakers in the main hall. Garrard deck as well I think - sounded good. Didn't realise it was still in production.
  25. Thanks ! I've got one track from it on a 90s Jazz Crusaders 'Best Of' compilation and quite like it. Anything by these guys before they got their disco hats on is good by me. Sounds like a definite 'buy'.
