  2. On DJM Records - came out around 1975. If it's the one I'm thinking of it has the live broadcast from the 'Both/And' club, released on CD more recently by Fresh Sound. I picked up this 2LP set myself quite recently for £2 !
  3. Many thanks Folks - appreciated. No Mosaics today (*) but a really good family get-together, food and liquid refreshments. Couldn't have asked for more.. For sure John - I'll have to head down to a Southampton gig sometime (petrol prices permitting..) Good suggestion. And on vinyl.. * I did however give Carmell Jones CD2 a spin first thing..
  4. The 'flyer' given out for this year's Cheltenham performance by Dunmall with Henry Grimes and Andrew Cyrille mentions that early experience he had touring with Watson.
  5. Just been listening to Nathan Davis on flute with a Turkish pop band from 1973. Works suprisingly well !

  10. A couple of vinyl items. Nice copy of Quincy Jones 'Body Heat' on A&M. Haven't heard that one for over 25 years ! (will need to get my joss sticks and kaftan out) Plus a new Nathan Davis. 'Best of Nathan Davis 65-76' 2LP set on Jazzman Records. Looks promising !
  11. Lucky man. Nice to be one step ahead of 'Last Chance'.
  12. I hear you ! (or rather, I hear Mr Cuscuna). Just seeing the mention of 'Tom Dooley' and 'Hava Nagila' would have me running a mile. I'm looking forward to hearing what they make of these two tunes. Must have been something in the air back in 1963. Wasn't that the year that Miles did 'Basin St Blues'?
  13. Thanks to Yves ( ) and his spare set and a bit of holiday I've just cranked up the Carmell Jones Mosaic Select on the CD player. And what an excellent Select it is. Soundwise very good - Ron McMaster did a good job. Even though I've got most of it on LP it's good to have this music collated conveniently. Harold Land's playing is - as ever - a standout and I'm looking forward to hearing the 'Folk Music' session.

  19. Oh - mainly that Carpenter was pretty straight-ahead with himself and Roy Brooks although he couldn't vouch that Baker was treated the same (although there was no obvious nastiness on show). Roy Brooks and Kirk ended up commuting backwards and forwards between Atlantic City and NYC every day for the recordings, which he said was pretty exhausting. They had an evening gig in Atlantic City to honour.

  22. Totally agree re: the comment about Kirk being a delightful, very positive character. He did a gig at the local club about a year ago with his UK band - one of the best I've heard there. Love his tune 'Habiba', which he played at the gig also. I got to chat with him afterwards about the Chet Baker sessions done for Richard Carpenter (interesting) and he signed a whole stack of CDs. Lovely chap ! I think he did 'Infant Eyes' that night too.
  23. Wow - you guys got your sets already? Just hope my snail-mail packet steamer doesn't hit the rocks !
  24. Yeah, a couple of Tadd Dameron sessions (including 'Fontainbleau') on the other LP. I have that one. Sonny Rollins 'East Broadway Rundown' (HMV, mono)
  25. Thanks for the suggestions - I'll keep an eye open for 'Phase One'. I have the Nessa box (thanks to Chuck) so am on the look out for good AEC material to add to it.
