  3. Cat is indeed featured on plunger on one track.

  5. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. I have a Stereo Records 'Jazz Giant' by Benny Carter. Will give that a spin today.
  6. Max Roach 'Drums Unlimited' (Atlantic mono)
  7. Clifford Jordan 'These Are My Roots - Clifford Jordan Plays Leadbelly' (Atlantic mono) Where else can you hear Julian Priester with banjo?

  9. Freddie Hubbard 'High Blues Pressure' (Atlantic orange/green label stereo)
  10. Booker Little, Curtis Fuller etc. 'The Soul of Jazz Percussion' (Warwick DG stereo) This is a wonderful little session of percussion features plus stellar soloists (particularly Little) playing arrangements by Teddy Charles, Alonzo Levister, Mal Waldron and Tom McIntosh.
  11. The Contemporary Shelly Manne Blackhawk and Manne-Hole LPs are hard to beat. As is the Contemporary Lasha/Simmons 'Firebirds'.
  12. King Pleasure/Annie Ross 'King Pleasure Sings, Annie Ross Sings' (Prestige Bergenfield DG mono)

  15. 'The Expubident World of Babs "Speedy" Gonzales' (Expubident stereo). Some really nice tracks with Ray Nance and Horace Parlan !
  16. Or 'Forest Flower' by Charles Lloyd.
  17. Amazing stuff, the Ayler - even if it does sound as if it was recorded from the john. Sort of like variations on a theme of Dvoraks 'New World Symphony'.
  18. Guy Lafitte/Andre Persiany 'Les Classiques Du Jazz Vol 2' (French Columbia mono)
  19. Very interesting, big ticket Mike Westbrook BBC transcription LP here: Westbrook LP
  20. Just diggin' the Saturday morning broadcast. A load of stuff with Dizzy Gillespie then the material from the Andrew Hill 'Mosaic Select'. Doesn't get better. Long live Mr Rivers !
  21. Interesting. I was just playing the reissue of the Tifton 'Batman' LP the other day. I always thought Al Kooper was on the session - and Ra is just on some of the tracks I think but his sound on organ is unmistakable, definitely left-field. First time I saw the cover of the reissue I realised that back around 1966-67 I'd seen it in the shops around the time I bought my yellow batcape and mask etc. I've not come across this Goldfinger/Zorba LP but it's probably another Al Kooper and the 'Blues Project' session. Possibly one or two known themes then loads of public domain tunes to save money. Have never heard any rumours that Ra/Patrick/Allen etc. played this one.
  22. It's all in the timing. Impeccable !
