  1. The 'spiegel' edition is in a smaller, rectangular 'book-type' pack (a bit like the Complete Herbie and Dexter Blue Notes) with the same cover photo as the bigger, square box Mosaic.
  2. Fascinating jazzbo - sounds like she's been caught in a 30-year time warp. That's a sad story - but at least some royalties are now coming her way. Thanks for the link !
  3. The German 'entry' was SABA recording artist Eugen Cicero's son, I believe ! UK entry was embarrasingly bad. They narrowly avoided 'nul points' thanks to our friends the Irish and the Maltese. The regional block voting has turned the whole thing into an ex-Communist Block mutual back-patting stitch up worthy of the Kremlin at its worst. Good production by the Finns though. I should have given it a miss and gone to see some live jazz.
  4. "George George Cables (piano); " Any relation to George Cables, perchance?

  8. Holy !*~# Thanks for posting that !
  9. Is that Austin Powers on lead vocals? Funky organ backing !
  10. Miles Davis 'Blackhawk' LP 1. Working my way through it.
  11. There's what sounds like quite a bit of high pitch feed-through, if that's what you mean. At least that was my last recollection of the set. I'll have to check. A couple of king-sized sofas should cure it.
  12. Indeed, I've had a mid-range unit on a Mission speaker disintigrate before my very eyes. I think I was playing the 'Agharta' CD at the time.
  13. You can make a claim for any damage caused by them by filling in a form (obtainable at any PO) and their local management will then follow it up - usually by inspecting the damage and agreeing a settlement. I've had that happen on at least one box of rare vinyl.
  14. Just listening to the 'Turn of the Century' and it is absolutely schmokin'.
  15. Indeed, welcome back ! I'm sure I have seen a clip from one of the shows from this series. Possibly the Mingus, on one of his DVDs (Triumph of the Underdog?).
  16. Yikes - you guys are way too efficient !
  17. Come to think of it, I have been 'dinged' with a cheque from DHL after the fact before. Just forgot about it. As you say, with the current exchange rate it shouldn't be too bad.

  19. That's what I thought a few years ago, when I last used a carrier like DHL - until I got a friendly letter a few weeks later asking me to pay tax and duty. When I called them they told me they always billed people a couple of weeks after delivery, they didn't want their drivers to carry money around with them... Damn !

    Rod Levitt RIP

That's sad news - RIP and sympathies to the family. I really like the arrangements and playing on his Riverside LP - and will dig it out this weekend. It's good that he was still able to pick up the 'bone and get pleasure from playing it. Second also the Mosaic suggestion. A great prospective set there.
  21. The nearest one to me was about 60 miles away ( ). After a failure to catch me at home I ended up getting them to drop it (the Berigan, not Roach) off at work. On the plus - no import duty.
  22. I'm sure that line has been said in more than a few divorce cases.
  23. Unity was RECORDED in 1965, but I'm guessing it didn't come out until 1966. So I doubt any of the readers had heard it. Guy Just pulled my 'Unity' vinyl out and I think you're right - it has a '37-66' anniversary inner sleeve for a 1966 issue. I guess 'Into Somethin' would have been out in 1965.
  24. It's amazing Patton polled so low. An indication I guess of just how few of those early BN NY USA imprint Patton albums actually sold.
