  1. What is that 'Collector's Disk' like? Worth getting? Edit - to correct myself, answer looks to be on page 1. Looks like a 'yes'.
  2. 'Jazz at the Philharmonic - New Volume 6' (Clef mono)
  3. Wayne's 'Odyssey of Iska' going ballistic - on CD ! Iska
  4. Very Best Wishes !
  5. Very much my first thought. That first disk is superlative. But so is the rest of the set...
  6. He's a great guy to catch live, if you get the chance. Saw one of his shows at Steamers some years ago and it was an A1 evening. His flute work is particularly good. Made the audience feel ver much at home, too !
  7. What is it? Blues for the Viet Cong? A mint signed Polydor for 49 cents, perhaps..
  8. Hmmm, interesting. I always thought the BBC were very uncompromising and not allowing "their recordings" to be published, even if it means they will be rotting in their vaults forever and a day. So, is there a theoretical slim chance that we'll get to hear this Westbrook baby published someday? That Tubby Hayes was a strange one. The Harkitt vinyl was 'yanked' off the market very quickly on legal grounds. The CD version was issued by another company (Art of Life) and is in print I think. Just managed to get the vinyl before it disappeared. I suspect there might be a chance for some enterprising company to ask the Beeb for rights to this one for an official issue (assuming the Beeb still has it on file). I wonder if Mike knows about it?
  9. Looking forward to seeing that one on DVD too. Love the way they had those radiators always humming at lots of dB ! Never could work out the bit with the melting lady singing on the stage though.
  10. This is the only one of those Hubbard CTIs that I have on vinyl. Picked it up for about $5 in Toronto. It's good ! The gloopy bass on these CTIs sounds a bit dated these days though.
  11. First port of call in the set is the 'Afro Bossa' session. Superlative. On paper the later material such as the Mary Poppins looks very iffy but it works suprisingly well. And the music swings like crazy. This set is recommended !
  12. And that's just the Miles Davis CDs and DVDs..
  13. Cannonball Adderley Quintet 'Them Dirty Blues' (Riverside DG stereo)
  14. Good morning Brownie - welcome back !
  15. Probably an airing expiry, rather than disc expiry. Unless, of course, it's a lacquer transcription disc. Yep, that would be an airing expiry. I'm suspecting that this was sent by the Beeb to an 'affiliated' station down under for airplay. Back in 1971 the old Colonial links (including cultural) were a bit stronger than today. On a similar subject, one of these transcriptions recorded by Tubby Hayes' Quartet, as recorded for broadcast in Spain, was issued by Harkitt a few years ago ('Commonwealth Blues' I think). That one was in (decent) mono.
  16. I can't figure out if Bertrand was joking or serious. Bertrand? Guy The suspense is killing us. Paging Bertrand....
  17. Copyright date on the Roach set is 2000. Copyright date on the Mobley set is 1998. I bet that one times out next year. Wow - was the Roach really out back in 2000? My mind is playing tricks, thought it was more recent than that.
  18. Obviously, but I don't think Mosaic is going to tell you that. I don't think it's any huge secret. You can figure it out by looking at when sets first came out and when they go out of print. If you look at most sets, it seems like it's for five years, then with (probably) an option to renew for another 5. I think the J.J. was on the market for 10 years. Looks like the Roach has been around for close to 10 now (same with the Hodges). They're timing out (as opposed to selling out the maximum number of copies). I think the Roach is much more recent - didn't it come out around 2002/2003? 5 years seems to be around the usual timeframe for these sets.
  19. I noticed that too at one local station here in the UK. I've never known diesel to be cheaper than unleaded ! (at least not within the last 20+ years). After driving diesel for the past 10 years I change over to unleaded next month. Talk about timing..
  20. Brilliant, John, brilliant! Jeez - I think I might even buy that one !
  21. Great image, but perhaps a bit too American/Texas. Got anything more Northern European? Do they have a Volvo Ranch? Like this one too - but maybe needs an Arctic tundra back-drop with some Trabbies?
  22. whether you go north or go south, just find wide open spaces without too many disrupting vertical structures et voilà... Spot on !
  23. I asked about the Hodges when I ordered the Roach and got as an answer that it "should be around until the end of the year"... but I see that one as a likely candidate, I think it came out around the same time as the Roach. Sounds like a likely candidate. That one will be next in the cross-hairs. Suspect Django may follow too.
