  1. Yep, I've got a copy of the DooTone first press 'Introducing Carl Perkins'. The music is great but the recording quality just so-so. It shouldn't be too difficult to pick up a 60s/70s Dootoo pressing of this one.
  2. Yes, I'm sure it is. Still see it in the racks quite regularly. That set would be my recommendation. Part of the 'West Coast Classics' series I think - and up to the usual high production standards of that series.
  3. Clark Terry 'Night Life' (UK Xtra) With Budd Johnson
  4. Did search for an original when I was assigned to Algiers during my journalism days in the 70s and failed to score a copy in the local record stores
  5. Hey, that would be me too...
  6. Lots of good experience with PJC. Their shipping is very reliable/sturdy and the condition of the LPs invariably first rate. Just one LP returned - a distorted Blue Note deep groove which they refunded immediately. Class act.
  7. I have the reissue - and it cost an arm and a leg. I'm told that the sound is better than the original - plus the cover is as near to facsimile as you can get. The music is . I believe there were only 100-150 of the original Oktavs produced, so the high price of that ebay item is no suprise.
  8. Just listening to this excellent show. Too bad those LPs didn't sell too well. I remember picking up the 'Civilization' LP when it came out (an unexpected bolt from the blue after all those fusion albums) and played it endlessly at the time. Heard live at this time, Williams was also furiously loud - as you say in the programme, very much a conscious decision. Caught him backstage after a 1989 performance and he was sat on a step looking absolutely exhausted, sweat pouring off. Wouldn't give me the time of day.
  9. Worth also searching for the 'Jazz Hoot' LP put out by CBS around 1974. That one has more material from Basin St West plus studio material from that vintage. One of the earliest LPs I ever bought. First time I saw Woody's band he had Lyle Mays on piano. Talk about keeping things contemporary ! From what I recall the avarage age of the players must have been 18 or 19.
  10. 'Webster', as in Webster Young.
  11. Roy Eldridge 'Complete Verve' CD#1 Another real good 'un.
  12. Astoundingly, it's the same in South Wales where, if you can see the other side of the valley, it's going to rain. MG Another astounding day ! Great day for some garden clearance. What was astonishing was that I kept finding LADYBIRDS !!!!
  13. Heck, that poster from EKE BBB was at a gig that was within days of the ones I saw !
  14. Similar for me. After catching two sets by the Shaw/Turre/Miller/James/Reedus lineup at Ronnie Scotts I went back the next night for more of the same. Sadly, those two nights were the only times I caught Mr Shaw but it made me a fan for life !
  15. Yep, thanks. Earlier today I put in an order for it at my favourite Classic Records outlet ! £25 sounds AOK
  16. Duke Ellington Reprise, CD#3 'Afro Bossa' - superlative !
  17. Magnificent clear skies and sun this weekend, well above zero. Heck, I was sunbathin' out there yesterday !
  18. Yes, hope it was a good one !
  19. Last night - Nathan Davis Sextet 'Peace Treaty' (SFP) Superb facsimile reissue from France !
  20. I like this session ! Duke Pearson made a great job. Have you ever heard the Epic Session ? I've never found it. Nope - but I would like to hear it ! Saw one some years ago (probably at Mole Jazz). Not the greatest of condition so didn't go for it. Shame.
  21. There's an inexpensive Douglas reissue available out there from the US. Recording quality was never great but it's OK.
  22. Yusef Lateef - 'Cry! Tender' (Esquire mono). With Lonnie Hillyer.
  23. shhh ! I want to hear that it's crap !
  24. A bit late but hope it is a good one !
  25. Johnny Coles 'Little Johnny C' (BN NY USA mono. deep groove on side 1)
