I like it too, have the vinyl box on my shelf. Haven't played it for a couple of years so will have to put that right over the next week. This one is under-rated as a Mosaic I think.

The Jody Grind is fabulous. It is probably my all time favourite Horace Silver - and I love pretty well all of those Blue Notes. Somehow it manages to combine incredible groove, non-jazz fan 'listenability', hard drive and considerable exploratory improvisational interest (thanks to msrs Spaulding, Shaw and Washington ). What an amazing album.

Lee Morgan Bio and others
sidewinder replied to marcello's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
My copy has now arrived, along with the Peter Ind 'Tristano' so there should be some good reading this weekend. Format of the Morgan book is unbound hardback - quite a lot of interesting photos by Val Wilmer. Not too much that I can see about the 'Helen Moore' tragedy but I'll reserve judgement further until I've read more. Some of the interview sources look quite obscure. -
That's from Jazz 625, an episode originally broadcast on UK BBC2 back in March 1964. Introduced by Humphrey Littleton, who's still going strong and gigging at 80+ !

Yep, that one is a beauty. The Farmer/Jordan front line is superb and the compositions are memorable throughout. Very nicely varied programme, well recorded by RVG. I voted 'Cape Vedean Blues', one of my all time favourite Horaces. 'The African Queen' has killer Joe Henderson and side 2 is graced by pungent work from JJ Johnson. Under-rated !

I thought NYC real estate was expensive...
sidewinder replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Wow - thought this would be just a London/NYC problem ! Couldn't even think of living in London these days. How I did it for all those years as a student 20-odd years ago now amazes me ! (living in pretty good areas too). Those rich Bankers can keep to their nice bijou tenements. -
'The Man With The Golden Arm' (Decca mono DG original). With Shorty Rogers, Shelly Manne etc. A great buy at the local Oxfam store for £1.49.

Yep, it's a corker !

Miles' drummers from his 70's LIVE bands in NON-Miles contexts

Al Foster plays with great taste on those two Blue Mitchell Blue Notes - 'The Thing To Do' and 'Down With It'. Both on the Blue Mitchell Mosaic set. -
How did you 'hear' about the Organissimo.org forums?
sidewinder replied to eeegor's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It might be because AAJ is given some publicity in magazines such as 'Jazzwise'. I much prefer the 'underground' feel of this place tho'. -
I thought NYC real estate was expensive...
sidewinder replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
You just know a property crash is imminent here when this sort of crap gets put on the market for £170k plus £30k 'conversion costs'. Last time this happened in the 1980s I remember a broom cupboard near Harrods getting listed for £80k and - sure as eggs is eggs - the property market in London collapsed within 2 years. Total and utter greed ! -

Looks fabulous - time for me to put in my traditional cap-in-hand wish to Mosaic HQ for a vinyl set of this collection. -
What was your board name on the BNBB?

Sidney E. Winder or "sidewinder" on the BNBB also.. -
How did you 'hear' about the Organissimo.org forums?
sidewinder replied to eeegor's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
That's about right. They were shutting down the Blue Note board when somebody mentioned Organissimo, or gave a link or something, and lo and behold (he's got me doing it) 90% of the BN posters were to be found posting away here. Haven't looked back since. Yep, I remember that day when everyone was reporting in here, like a camp muster. -
How did you 'hear' about the Organissimo.org forums?
sidewinder replied to eeegor's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Came over when Jim kindly opened up the forum after the BNBB went ballistic. Lots of familiar faces from those times came over here ! -

Very cool, thanks for posting ! What a lineup in that trumpet section - Curson, Wheeler, Stanko. Is there a listing of the UK tour dates available? Looking forward to checking it out.

Loud and clear at 15Hz for me, through to 13kHz at least. Not sure if my computer speakers are duff above that, my ears or a combination of both ! Not too bad for an old fart..

Unusual example of a Brit getting a session on ESP. Used to hear him a lot on BBC Jazz Club sessions back in the day - his wife Pepi was featured quite a lot too. Yeah, they seemed like an interesting pair. I wish he'd recorded more, though... just two examples, right? I've only heard of the ESP. Which is the other?
