Watched the first 20 minutes of the DVD last night. Lots of footage in English of Ayler talking, interviews with Don Ayler, Sunny Marray etc. Very nicely filmed.
So far I seem to have got away scot-free
Did have a bit of self-inflicted needle bounce on a Tubby Hayes Fontana the other week but no audible damage resulted !
Those 'Super Sounds Of Bosworth' put out by Trunk Records and taken from the Bosworth Archive are great too.
I'll have to stick in an order for the 'Sven'. :rsmile:
Here's a Basil Kirchin I particularly enjoy:
Sort of a theme music score for a bleak/gritty 60s Northern European film-noir that never was. Side 2 has various tracks, some of which feature Tubby Hayes and Jimmy Page of Led Zep ( ).
Reissued by Trunk Records. I think the limited LP is sold out but the CD is very much available.
'Charcoal Sketches' is another interesting Kirchin disk that is worth picking up.
Available here. Trunk Records
'Viewer discretion advised' in the cooking section of the site ( )
One of the funniest things about 'Ali G' is the area he is supposedly based - Staines - with his 'Massive'. Staines is a characterless outer London suburb area surrounded by reservoirs and sprawl on the flight path into Heathrow.
I'm into it. I have a couple of 'Music De Wolfe' and 'KPM' compilations on vinyl (groovy) and also that Soft Machine session done for De Wolfe. Half of it you tended to hear on the TV back in the day when the test card was being transmited.
I even have a Stefan Grapelli that was issued by De Wolfe.
Some of the cover art is pretty nifty too.
I had a quick flick through it and for £30 a go there was not much that is new. For some reason they miss out stuff that is very much still non-OOP and on the shelves and put in reviews of Verve Elites like Alan Shorter's 'Orgasm' that disappeared with the dodo.
'Mosaic' also seems to be a forbidden word with these guys..
I'm sure these made it across the Atlantic onto the BBC radio 'light' programme.
At least I have some subliminal memories of Mitch Miller singalongs from back in the day !
These clear skies and cold weather over the past week seem to be causing chaos !
So far things are OK over here.
And as long as there's power to rotate my deck, I'm happy !
Sounds suspiciously like the documentary on the DVD !
Check it out - it's excellent.
PS Tjobbe - got my old analogue satellite system working again so if you haven't the 'record' facility by the date drop me a message and I'll try to record it for you.
Up again with this thread. Just been listening to the RCA vinyl - so many great performances on this session, McKusick, Evans, Galbraith, Farmer. It has to be one of the greatest jazz sessions of all time. 'Visionary' indeed.
