  1. The trailer for the movie looks pretty hilarious. 'Come and see my movie or I will be executed'. How does he think them up?
  2. Good grief - it was at a 'sensible-ish' $270 last night with 1 hr 30 to go.
  3. Anyone seen the new 'Borat' movie yet? It's just started at my local. I understand that the Rodeo scene mentioned above features in the movie.
  4. Wayne Shorter 'The All Seeing Eye' (BN 'Wally' Conn reissue). Compares very well with the NY USA.
  5. Generally very good indeed. I would second what Brownie said above. The original LPs (especially deepgroove monos) usually have a bit more depth and better soundstage but Mosaic vinyl tends to be quieter with regards to pressing noise. I'm a fan of the sound of the Tina Brooks set you mention. I would also agree that the Kings are the most natural sounding of the lot.
  6. Lee Morgan 'The Procrastinator' (BN Capitol 'Wally' issue)
  7. If so, that might entice me to buy the Mosaic.
  8. Still recall the thrill of picking up 'Civilization' back at its time of original release on vinyl. Change did at long last seem to be in the air after all those years of fusion, with TW leading his own jazz group. I have all of the sessions on CD and vinyl so won't be picking up the Mosaic. A shame they haven't included 'Tokyo Live' (when will that elusive number ever get reissued? ) Saw the group for free back in 1990 and it was every bit as good as expected.
  9. And still playing very nicely ! Happy Birthday to him and hope he keeps touring.
  10. I do the same. Boxes stored vertically (slightly away from wall to give air circulation) and with LPs, booklets, invoices etc. kept within the boxes. I'm super-careful when opening up the boxes but not quite at the white glove stage yet. When 'cracking open' a set I try to give the LPs one treatment on the VPI, if they haven't already been cleaned. Even new sets benefit from this.
  11. Store in shade. Incidentally, the worst 'yellowing' effect I have had on covers (front and back) has been on LPs purchased from France. Too much sun over there?
  12. I'll dig out the vinyl of 'Motto Grosso', 'Super Nova' and 'Odyssey' tonight. I like them all ! They would indeed make an excelent Mosaic Select (maybe combine with tracks from 'The Collector'?) I find that the music on these albums has quite a bit of commonality with the impressionistic direction that Wayne has taken in the last few years. Need to play some Wayne - he's on in London in 10 days time and I need to secure a ticket (sold out )
  13. I notice that the Bards are stocking the Doldinger. I'm quite tempted with that one - looks worth a listen !
  14. I've seen '80s issues of this one around in the racks. Must have been a UK thing, then. Don't recall ever seeing it over here. Quite possibly.
  15. I've seen '80s issues of this one around in the racks.
  16. It was probably a miracle that this movie was even completed - the studio tried to bury it. In fact there is a persistent rumour that the original 'long cut' master tapes were buried by the self same studio bosses under concrete in part of the M4 (or was it M25?) motorway to the West of London. I remember the fuss that accompanied the unearthing of extra footage for the 'long' version of the film back in the mid 80s. It was heavily cut for US distribution (for drive-ins) back in the 70s. I have a copy of the latest 'Director's Cut' and the long version enclosed with that was obtained in the US from the collection of Roger Corman, I think (a miracle). Until this was unearthed the extra footage was presumed lost under concrete. The folk music used in the film had an equally weird history. Tapes were unearthed by chance from someone's attic in Swindon, Wilts. so I've heard.
  17. Happy Birthday ! - and good listening !
  18. Yes, they were out there. I bought a copy for my 'curios' shelf.
  19. It did make it onto the 2CD Impulse 'Complete Africa Brass' set. An interesting composition and arrangement but poorly executed by the ensemble. Shame it didn't get more rehearsal/shake-out.
  20. Miles Davis 'Relaxin' (Prestige Bergenfield DG mono) Freddie Hubbard 'Hub Cap' (BN 47W63rd mono)
  21. 'Master Jazz Piano' LP set playing now. Earl Hines sides. After that it will either be the Basie Studio Roulette LP set or the Buck Clayton Jam Sessions LP set.
  22. or 'Scissors... Stone'
  23. Larry Young - '4 Red Dots in a Test Tube' Hank Mobley - 'P*ss Off While I Enjoy My Cigarette' (multiple volumes) Dexter Gordon - 'Pedalling My Onions'
  24. Thelonious Monk - 'Genie of Modern Music Vols 1 and 2' 'Horace Silver and Melinda Messenger' Larry Young - 'Of Love and Peas'
  25. Jimmy Deuchar - 'Pub Crawling' (Contemporary mono) Graham Collier - 'Deep Dark Blue Centre' (Deram stereo)
