  1. Up again in sympathy with this thread. Looks like I need to lose a crowned tooth and have an implant put in ( ). I nearly had a fit when I got the estimate for the work. That's my whole Mosaic and vinyl budget for the next 10 years busted... Will have to resort now to buying Blue Note Applause label vinyl..
  2. 80s MCA pressing? The mid-70s pressings sound pretty good on the whole, to my ears. Just about to spin: Stanley Turrentine 'Another Story' (BN Liberty blue/white stereo) Horace Silver 'In Pursuit of the 27th Man' (BN Liberty blue label stereo)
  3. What, the Larry Young?
  4. Good luck to Mr & Mrs Lon from here too.
  5. I'm amazed that the Four Freshmen didn't make the cut..
  6. The one great deal I have had on ebay for Blue Note originals was a really excellent Sonny Rollins Vol 2 47W63rd DG mono for $60 on a 'buy it now'. That was about 1 year ago ! The roughest pressing I have picked up (there haven't been many - and amazingly this one still sounds OK) was a George Braith. The saving grace was that George had signed it on the back ('To Foxy' so I guess it was to a lady friend.)
  7. I think people are going to be pretty impressed with this proposed Kenny Cox reissue. I've had the two Liberty vinyls for some years now and really like them. Very much 'out of' 60s Miles Davis in style. Will that Frank Foster also include the 'Manhattan Fever'? (also a nice one very worthy of reissue).
  8. Aha !
  9. Is that Rick Laird on bass?
  10. A bit earlier: Andrew Hill 'Judgement' (BN NY USA mono DG side 1) For later: McCoy Tyner 'Tender Moments' (BN Liberty stereo) Johnny Griffin/Francy Boland/Kenny Clarke et al : 'Griff 'n Bags' (Rearward 2LP)
  11. Up again for this thread. The Quincy Jones 'Jazz Icons' DVD is great. As Larry mentions, Budd Johnson is in inspired form ( ) on the first show, recorded in Belgium. Great opportunity to see the likes of Julius Watkins, Melba Liston, Quentin Jackson, Benny Bailey and Sahib Shihab in action, with solo features. Phil Woods is also very good on his feature spots too. What a band - one of the best to ever tour Europe based on the lineup alone. I'll be checking out more of this series for sure.
  12. I also have a truly mint mono 'NY' copy of this - alas without the ear ! Sounds bloody wonderful though !
  13. Yeah, it'll be two discs of vinyl rips, but I'm not sure just how "rare" some of the tracks will be. My original intent was to stick with stuff that hasn't made it to CD, but between imports, bootlegs, and oop discs, that turned out to be unworkable. It's really quite impressive to realize just how much jazz music - so long unattainable in the vinyl era - has been released at least somewhere on CD over the last twenty years! At the very least it'll be stuff that I don't have on CD. Sounds great. I'm in !
  14. Go for it - and the rarer the vinyl the better..
  15. That good?
  16. I've just taken delivery of this one and I'd say - go for the set. The booklet has not only some great session photos that were completely new to me but also some recollections from Art Davis, Bob Boswell etc. of their thoughts of the sessions. The music of course is wonderful - a couple of disks of Dorham/Rollins, leading in to Little/Priester/Draper/Coleman et al. The wonderful musicality of Max Roach shines through it all. Recommended !
  17. Grant Green 'Carryin' On' (BN Liberty stereo). Good Friday night listening. Francy Boland 'Going Classic' (German Vogue 2LP). One of the 'Jazz Joint' series.
  18. That's sad news indeed. She was just on UK TV the other day on a 'history of soul' documentary looking very much alive and full of spirit. Must have been recorded over a year ago though. I'll dig out that LP she did with Thad & Mel this weekend, in respect.
  19. Perhaps the Man send the word out to his dealers.........'liquidate'?
  20. I believe that this one, with the 'Lam' jacket, is one of the rarer NY USA mono titles. My copy is the stereo - sounds pretty nice.
  21. Glenmorangie (recovering from a really bad cold.. )
  22. That's the stuff that is shipped out onder this imprint to the UK !
  23. Max Roach CD#4. Group with George Coleman, Ray Draper and Booker Little. Wonderfull !
