    Tony Fruscella

Not that many people were interested in checking out Fruscella when these came out. The Japanese vinyl I have is an exact replica of the Atlantic original, even the black Atlantic labels are pretty close to the originals! The UK London has the laminate cover and heavy gauge vinyl. Nice big sound to it !

  4. I hope you too checked the Sweden Post option! I can only assume that this 'European Integration' thing has come full circle and SW England is now classed as part of Scandinavia.

I have a UK London of this LP, Brownie. I don't think too many copies were pressed over here of this one back in the 1950s but it sounds superb - and is still near mint !
  6. 'Division of Liberty Records Inc.' on the back cover?
  7. Max Roach CD#2. No suprise that Kenny Dorham is already proving to be a standout on this set !
  8. Shipping note says Sweden Post ( ) then Parcel Force !
  9. I didn't realise the UK you lived in was on a parallel earth... what took it so long to get there?? Good question. I seeem to recall your Elvin set took about 3-4 days. Mine was ordered around the same time but took over a month longer. I tend to find that multiple orders attract delays (no doubt due to the local PO customs bureaucrats ) and single sets arrive in days. At least it's here.. I've been sweating a bit over the past week.
  10. The Commodores and the Maynard LP box will each take a pair of hob-nail boots, with space to spare..
  11. Elvin Jones Disk #6. Can't understand why that 'At This Point In Time' session gets such stick. Elvin at his best IMO !
  12. Back to Elvin and my set has finally arrived. Set #3124. Booklet and disks 1/2 look to be OK. Max Roach has also arrived - #2499. So far so good !
  13. Makes mee feel a bit better thinking in those terms too.
  14. Just listening to the 'Beacon Hill', I can definitely recommend the Toshiba vinyl. A nice laid-back session and Byrd was pretty under-rated at this vintage, especially on ballads (lovely version of 'Polka Dots and Moonbeams'). Toshiba vinyl sounds up to the King standard of quality here. The only odd thing is that this Japanese LP has a 'clone' Division of Liberty Records label on it.
  15. Just pulled 'Watkins at Large' (King) and 'Byrd Blows On Beacon Hill' (Toshiba) from the racks and into the play pile. Both courtesy of the great Mr Tanno !
  16. Not Dave Holland?
  17. Yikes ! That must have been the 'Live at the Loosedrecht Jazz Festival' Strata East or Black Lion 2LP. That twofer was the culprit of one of my own vinyl ****-ups. Sold a copy of the Black Lion second-hand to Mole Jazz for about £1, in a moment of madness. Coluldn't get into it at the time. It was near-mint too.
  18. You've persuaded me to pull my (one) copy of the CBS-Sony from the Miles rack today.

    Albert Ayler

I've now watched the film all the way through. Very fine - and I'm no great Albert Ayler fan. One of the best things about the film are the audio interview excerpts of Ayler's voice. Certainly helps to give an impression of what made the individual tick.
  20. I didn't know that, Jim. Sorry to hear it. The Turrentine is the only one of those I've got. I'm not disposing of that unless the two other wise unissued sides are issued as a double conn with "New time shuffle". MG That Turrentine 'Dotty' twofer is a real keeper. A fine Duke Pearson-led session on that one. Yes, I think the precedence of that Prestige (RCA in UK) 24000 series might have spurred BN into action on this series. Charlie Lourie (God rest his soul) deserves enormous credit along with Mr Cuscuna for getting this stuff issued at a hugely non-sympathetic time for this music.

  22. Yes, especially odd as I've heard that the 60s 'mods' over here were into the early BJP albums. LP availability must have been an issue.
  23. At least then just a little of the proceeds of Donald and Bobbie Humphrey etc. may have gone into the publicity coffers for obscure, middle-of-nowhere UK jazz twofer window displays before the suits finally woke up !
