  1. I'll dig out the vinyl of 'Motto Grosso', 'Super Nova' and 'Odyssey' tonight. I like them all ! They would indeed make an excelent Mosaic Select (maybe combine with tracks from 'The Collector'?) I find that the music on these albums has quite a bit of commonality with the impressionistic direction that Wayne has taken in the last few years. Need to play some Wayne - he's on in London in 10 days time and I need to secure a ticket (sold out )
  2. I notice that the Bards are stocking the Doldinger. I'm quite tempted with that one - looks worth a listen !
  3. I've seen '80s issues of this one around in the racks. Must have been a UK thing, then. Don't recall ever seeing it over here. Quite possibly.
  4. I've seen '80s issues of this one around in the racks.
  5. It was probably a miracle that this movie was even completed - the studio tried to bury it. In fact there is a persistent rumour that the original 'long cut' master tapes were buried by the self same studio bosses under concrete in part of the M4 (or was it M25?) motorway to the West of London. I remember the fuss that accompanied the unearthing of extra footage for the 'long' version of the film back in the mid 80s. It was heavily cut for US distribution (for drive-ins) back in the 70s. I have a copy of the latest 'Director's Cut' and the long version enclosed with that was obtained in the US from the collection of Roger Corman, I think (a miracle). Until this was unearthed the extra footage was presumed lost under concrete. The folk music used in the film had an equally weird history. Tapes were unearthed by chance from someone's attic in Swindon, Wilts. so I've heard.
  6. Happy Birthday ! - and good listening !
  7. Yes, they were out there. I bought a copy for my 'curios' shelf.
  8. It did make it onto the 2CD Impulse 'Complete Africa Brass' set. An interesting composition and arrangement but poorly executed by the ensemble. Shame it didn't get more rehearsal/shake-out.
  9. Miles Davis 'Relaxin' (Prestige Bergenfield DG mono) Freddie Hubbard 'Hub Cap' (BN 47W63rd mono)
  10. 'Master Jazz Piano' LP set playing now. Earl Hines sides. After that it will either be the Basie Studio Roulette LP set or the Buck Clayton Jam Sessions LP set.
  11. or 'Scissors... Stone'
  12. Larry Young - '4 Red Dots in a Test Tube' Hank Mobley - 'P*ss Off While I Enjoy My Cigarette' (multiple volumes) Dexter Gordon - 'Pedalling My Onions'
  13. Thelonious Monk - 'Genie of Modern Music Vols 1 and 2' 'Horace Silver and Melinda Messenger' Larry Young - 'Of Love and Peas'
  14. Jimmy Deuchar - 'Pub Crawling' (Contemporary mono) Graham Collier - 'Deep Dark Blue Centre' (Deram stereo)
  15. One of Hank's Blue Notes? 'Art Blakey Big Band' on Bethlehem?
  16. No Bobo Svenson.
  17. Absolutely unforgiveable !
  18. Ordered the mega-combo ! Will post thoughts once it arrives.
  19. ..and make sure you give your mono original of 'Basra' a spin (pangs of jelousy.. )
  20. I've got a Liberty 'Rainbow series' pressing of this one from the late 1970s - I think it also came out in Japan around that time on King. Not issued at the time of original recording but held back in the vaults until Mr Cuscuna liberated it.
  21. Thanks etherbored. It's on my list ! I'm slightly out with my numbers. It's 63 Euros for the DVD/book combo, 81 Euros for DVD/book/tee and 95 Euros for the DVD/Book/Tee/2CD deal. My order is imminent.
  22. A happy birthday to a fellow vinyl-fetishist !
  23. etherbored - is the DVD in English or in German with subtitles? Thanks for your recommendation.
  24. I notice that 'Crippled Dick Hot Wax' does the book, DVD and a cool MPS t-shirt for about 80 Euros. That is a deal I might be tempted with.
