  1. Need to dig out !
  2. It is very effective. If that fails, it usually indicates to me that the record needs a spin in the RCM. Use of an RCM should result in much less ‘fluff generation’.
  3. Saw him and his band play once - apres ski in a ski resort !
  4. Imagine my thoughts when the record collection was transported by container across the Atlantic each way. Best not to think about it ! Fortunately I didn’t have any Mosaics at the time.
  5. I occasionally use a dab of that Audio Technica stylus cleaner fluid when buildup of crud starts to become an issue. You have to be careful though to avoid the liquid creeping up into the cantilever and causing damage so use should be very, very sparing. Never used the ultrasonic devices. I find the brush supplied by Dynavector to be the best bet, together with the Linn ‘green abrasive paper’ for daily use.
  6. I have had chance to do a bit of cross-checking between LP and CD versions. I used ‘The Beehive’ on LP6 side 2 and CD 5 as a reference. I have to say that in general, both versions the sound is very good indeed. There is quite a difference in the mixes though. The LP version seems to give more prominence to the top and bottom ends, with a Mickey Roker’s ride cymbal and the bass benefitting in particular. More spread across the spectrum. The CD version seems to have a bit more concentration and emphasis into the mid-range. I’d be happy with either version of this set. In any event, the CD version considerably improves on the old 3CD, which was itself a mana from heaven at the time it came out.
  7. Hi porcy - only 17 years late in responding to your question but I came across one of their Keith Tippett LP reissues today and was able to have a listen in-shop. Sleeve quality and reproduction excellent. The 180g LP sonics sounded very thin and lacking in dynamics - my guess is needle drop. There are some negative threads concerning this label on Hofmann so I would be inclined to avoid unless you are desperate.
  8. UK Riverside, Mono version
  9. There are certainly some interesting 180g LP reissues of late. At least one of guitarist Monnette Sudler’s 70s LPs has come out again - those got a bit of a stir/good reviews when they came out but weren’t around for long.
  10. Excellent 2x45rpm release Suspect I might not have seen it due to a lot of those later Prestige doubles not being UK issues and often only encountered as US or French imports (not sure if this one came out in France).
  11. Same here. I like the picture of the snow hut. 47 W63rd DG mono
  12. Very unpromising 1958 archive show on TV of ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium’. Pretty dreadful until.... the first UK TV performance of the Divine Sarah Vaughan ! In very good voice too.
  13. I guess Joe Harriott did record with Chris Barber but that is stretching things a bit !
  14. I have loads of those Milestone twofers but not that one. Can’t recall ever coming across it either, strangely. King LP Followed by more on King
  15. Sadly, that sort of idiocy seems to be rampant everywhere.
  16. That King version is a very nice issue. Better than the real thing !
  17. Mark Nightingale
  18. Yeah. Can’t go wrong with these vintage Uptown releases.
  19. If I can find it, I’ll give ‘Haunted Ballroom’ from this one a spin. Featuring spooky WW2 drum solo by prodigy wonder-kind Victor F. with Glenn Miller’s AAFB.
  20. It would be interesting to see if Decca do a nice reissue of that one in their ‘Explosion’ series. All gone very quiet with that - maybe they are holding off until next year for more (hopefully). Norma is a strange name for a label. Sponsored by she of ‘more peas dear’ perhaps?.
  21. I guess you could write a whole thesis about this mentioning population density, ethnic vulnerabilities, levels of obesity, age, area deprivation etc. but how many of those 1000+ were double vaccinated? Very few, I would suggest.
  22. Yes, fine album. The version I was listening to was on a French Milestone double but I also have the original. Very powerful sax front line once they get going too, with Stubblefield and Azar Lawrence.
